Police chief says cop who fatally shot Daunte Wright accidentally fired gun instead of Taser.
It only takes a split second to change the course of one's life forever. The officer involved in the Wright shooting has to be hurting as are the loved ones he left behind. It's tragic. As we all watch the Chauvin trial, it's clear there is much work to be done in law enforcement to ensure that we are all "served and protected".

It's hard to imagine how an officer can mistake a taser and a service weapon. They handle differently. Maybe it is true and she just didn't have time to think about it. Only she knows what lead to her shooting and killing him.

My heart breaks for all the people involved in this shooting and I hope it's fairly investigated and resolved.

    What do you think.

I know what will help to avoid such a situation involving a poorly-trained female police officer in the future- defunding the police's training budgets, and more diversity hiring.

If a police officer is that rattled during a traffic stop, then bad things are going to happen. I don't think it is wise to have police officers that scared when conducting a traffic stop. If a police officer is scared approaching me, it would make me nervous too.

Isn't this the same thing that happened at Fruitvale Station?

I've never handled a taser, but as much as I would assume they handle different, but I've seen video (I think it was Fruitvale) where the officer pulls the gun, fires, and seems genuinely confused, saying later that they thought it was their taser.

Based on the video it does appear she genuinely thought she had her taser out. Certainly appears to be a tragic mistake on the officers part.

And of course these people will loot Walgreens, Wal-Mart, and other businesses that had absolutely nothing to do with it...

I'm guessing that was supposed to be a dig at female cops? Guess we can't let a good tragedy go to waste.

We had a 73 year old reserve officer make that mistake in Oklahoma back in 2015...

Just saw the video (not sure if we are allowed to post it here due to graphic content), but she clearly says "I'll taze you," then repeatedly "taser, taser, taser," followed by "Oh ****, I shot him"

I had to look up that case. I guess it's possible to confuse a taser and gun. Hopefully, there will be some kind of updated training so officers learn how to differentiate them in high adrenal situations.

Definitely. Every stop can turn in an instant. The officer sets the "tone" of the encounter so an overly aggressive one or a terrified one is not good.

Yeah, it is still surprising to me that could happen, but again, I've never fired a taser. But I've accidentally put my snorkel in my mouth instead of my regulator before while diving. They feel different and I always kept them on different sides of my mask, but it still happened, and I saw it happen to others. I've heard LEOs generally keep them on different sides of their belt, but I think more than that would be prudent. I'm not excusing her actions. She made a tragic mistake, but it was still a fatal one, and that can't go ignored.

We've had really good fortune with dog behavior training in reducing the number of fatal incidents between LEOs and dogs, so I'm sure some additional training could help overall.

That's what happens when you hire to fill racial and gender quotas rather than hiring based off merit alone. In the future, United Airlines will have pilots who panic in critical situations too, and for the same reason.

I don't know why we wouldn't be able to post it here. It's not really "graphic" at all, and does wonders to enlighten us on the circumstances of the shooting:

Timestamp won't embed here, so jump to 52:07 to see the start of the video.

Sorry, my bad. It's not Walgreens this time. They've already looted a Foot Locker. I swear these people go out of their way to stereotype themselves...

After a lifetime of the ridiculous fantasy that "merit" is how all the white, male people who so often inhabit our halls of power, influence and leadership, whatever determined the current "merit" was determined by "absurdity" was the main criteria for advancement.
