......are beginning to pile up on topics like what is being taught in school as well as the QAnon inspired accusations of rampant pedophilia among liberals. They highlight the use of emotional exploitation as they seek to elicit a visceral response from parents to suggestions control of their kids is being diminished or usurped. The consequence, intended or otherwise, being the targeting of an already marginalized LBGTQ community. They blur the lines, purposely, between the responsibilities teachers have to their students and to their student's parents. They sow discord where none previously existed in the hope they can tap in to fear, anger, and confusion that translates to votes.

Are the posts on the board relating to these subjects a coincidence? Of course not. They are a direct reflection of the campaign strategy emerging on the Right. Make up false and or baseless accusations, use trigger words like indoctrination, invoke grievance, get people feeling defensive/defiant over race relations, refer to family values. IOW, recycle the Repub playbook. Hearken back to whispers of simpler times, question the morals of those who disagree with you, make the changing world in which we live a scary thing. Tell your constituents you can make their kids safe from the other. Those radical, communist (yeah, that again), sex crazed, baby eating, illegal immigrant loving, deep state technocrats coming to take your guns and freedom all at once. It's the 70's, 80's 90's, etc., all over again. Only the accusations change, the message stays the same.

Yes, their campaign is founded on "appeal to emotion", culture wars and fight against imaginary enemies. I have never seen GOP run on such things, and IMO it illustrates the change the party has undergone. It moved away from conservatism and went (and is still going) "all-in" with populism and pseudo-conservatism.

 

Working like a charm, too, if the polls are to be believed. As Krushchev said in a totally different context:

I have never seen the former GOP not, at least in part, run on social wedge issues since the 80's.

 

Only a total fool could think teachers all across the US are trying to convince boys to become girls and vice versa.
