There's no opinion, just fact. Stockless shotguns were marketed as "cruisers" and Mossberg even makes/made them under the same name. They even manufacture restricted weapons with ultra short barrels that they call compact cruisers presently. You know a lot doc, but you don't know everything. What the OP wants to know is do stockless shotguns represent a good viable home defense weapon? Practically no self respecting guru would agree with that. Somehow some of the big names, specifically Mossberg and Remington have bought into and are pushing the weapons. I'm not sure why. You're not going to use even low recoil buckshot to any good effect. Regular stocked pump action shotguns have been around a long time and that's because they work. The new semi-auto's are even better in terms of recoil control and cycling speed but you're going to pay for them.

"In all my time in LE as a LEO,
We never called any shotgun a cruiser, I have heard a marked car called a cruiser."

Was my statement, not what a manufacturer calls any particular model.

And of course much of my knowledge is quite limited, my Medical experience was Emergency medicine, E.M.S. etc....

All I am saying, is I have used such shotguns, and while it is NOT at all advisable, at one point I slept with a short barreled shotgun under My pillow at night.
A Winchester 1300, and I was glad I did, one night, it saved my life then.

This is a question that always ends badly.
Perhaps the next time, I will let others answer it.

Mossberg commercially introduced the "cruiser" going on two decades now. Since that time the term has become synonymous with stockless pistol grip shotgun.
Also someone the usual rules for someone with a lot of firearm experience as yourself may not apply when it comes to something like a stockless shotgun. Still both Mossberg and now Remington are pushing the idea, especially with the advent of mini-shells which also may be a gimmick unto itself.

It was unadvisable to buy/drive the original VW beetle to, if you wanted to keep both your legs, but they sold millions of them.

Which is irrelevant and immaterial to the topic.

Not really. I wouldn't advise a stockless shotgun for most. Particularly when using a high brass shell. But if it's a fad people tend to buy into fads.

Not at all. Proper manipulation techniques allow such weapons to be used far more precisely and effectively than cinematic misrepresentations of fact.

LMAO, you're not going to spray fire a cruiser from the hip, especially with buckshot. A totally ridiculous statement.
