I think the reason to have one of these is to keep your emails away from hackers. And also google employees can't know what you are writing. I guess you could minimize your chance of getting caught doing something illegal by using a private server. But I'm not even sure that that's right. So ...

    1. Are federal spooks with the NSA able to see an email you send from a private server? Even if they can't peruse your sent mail folder, won't the trigger words be noticed by the spooks as the message goes via gmail into a recipient's in box?

    2. I don't see the advantage of this unless everyone you have an exchange with also has a private server. And even then ... doesn't the email at some point use towers or wires that are not totally under your control?

    3. Or is it like the tin can walkie talkies and no one but the sender and the recipient has access?
