I'm a bit old [50] trained NBC operator. In Italy the acronym NBC means "Nuclear Biological Chemical" [the implicit fourth word is "risk"].
In the last two years I've left my work for some periods to give a hand as organizer in the Civil Protection to deal with the pandemic.
So I've lived the problem, I've not read newspapers and followed TV news.

If you want my opinion, American CDC has issued some irrational suggestions [only some], like it's partially politically oriented or at least politically influenced. But I've noted something similar regarding WHO [some declarations coming from that UN organization were near to an information crime!].

About masks: don't believe what you hear around. In Italy we have introduced the requirement to wear FFP2 masks and in a week the supermarkets were full of FFP2 masks. There are nor problems neither limitations of any kind to produce and distribute them.
[For your information N95 masks record a 95% of effectiveness, FFP2 masks record a 94% of effectiveness].

    About education ...
Here we envy your educational system until we realize that some of the best graduated Italian students become lecturers in US universities.
Maybe we don't grasp something. Note that Italian Universities are almost all public. But why Italian graduated students migrate to US? Because you've got the best structures.

I could infer that private education means best structure and public education means best preparation ...
But I'm not going to sustain this in a debate.

While I agree with you, that your recommendations should be part of our health system's informing of the public about Covid, the fact of the matter is that these same suggestions-- get enough sleep, eat a sensible diet, make exercise a daily habit, lose excessive "overweight" pounds-- are already proffered for a host of health problems, and suggested as a way for people to lower their risks for many different conditions, including cardio- vascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and cancer. The only thing I noticed that you left out, was to quit smoking/using tobacco products.

The sad truth, is that any who are willing to make these changes, already know about them-- as do all who have not been willing to change their lifestyles. It seems unlikely (cynical as it makes me sound) that adding one more condition to the list of benefits to healthy living, is going to convert anyone, if the threat of more lethal risks, like heart disease, couldn't do the trick.

Yes tobacco use is a good one. Thanks.

I understand what you are saying about people being unwilling to change behavior. But look what Covid DID motivate people to do that they didn’t before. Approximately 20% more people are Covid vaccinated than get annual flu shots (I’m not advocating for annual influenza vaccination because it decreases efficacy over time leaving seniors unprotected when they need it most). A huge percentage of people social distanced and wore masks (often in ways that were completely ineffective). People accepted being prohibited from visiting dying family members. The list of things people accepted because of fear or concern about Covid is long and extreme. Why didn’t we leverage that fear and concern for something productive instead of just stressing people out?

I don’t expect a high percentage of folks to care enough about their health to actually DO anything. We are conditioned to be unhealthy and get a pill or procedure to “fix” the problem. During Covid that conditioning was strengthened by ignoring simple cheap effective mitigations in favor of pharmaceutical and procedural interventions. Unfortunately I believe it’s intentional.

When you consider the choices I advocate for (good diet, exercise, etc.) also greatly increase efficacy of vaccination, especially in the aged yet are ignored completely by the medical/public health community it’s not a good look.

As I said, I don’t expect many to swim upstream against “reactive medicine”. Preventative medicine isn’t sexy and makes nobody any profits. But it’s my belief people should be educated on the facts so they can protect themselves if they wish to. I’ve taken a lot of crap on PF for presenting published studies showing how healthy choices can prevent infection and poor outcomes. I can understand apathy, but when life saving information from peer reviewed studies is ridiculed and attempted to be silenced we have a serious problem. But if one person is helped by my making this information available it will be worth it. And nobody else will provide it, so I’ll continue on….

The majority, yes. There are some black sheep who buck the system.
