History no, but not 200 years gone isn't history, that's current going by morality standards.

The Southerners fighting and dying for the State's Rights to hold others in eternal bondage due to an accident of birth were supposedly products of philosophies and morals systems comparable to our own. Slavery had already been abolished in most of the "civilized" world by this time. An overriding cause of why the British didn't enter the war on the Southern side was that Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation and the Brits knew that not even their own people,( who had originated the word 'jingoism' to describe their foreign policy), would support fighting a war to support slavery.

 

I absolutely HATE this kind of stuff.

How is this any different than ISIS destroying temples they do not like?

There are thousands, perhaps MILLIONS of statues and other pieces of art all throughout Europe, some of them built in honor for horrible mass murderers and they are never considered evil or asked to be brought down.

I hate this vandalism crap that is being born from the victim ideology being preached. A statue of a guy from over a hundred years ago offends you?

If the people want the statue down, there are civilized way to do it. In fact, many have been taken down without mob rule very recently.
