I have a Chinese friend. He told me when he was younger, his mom went to the market and bought a veritable zoo of animals, which she would come back home and cook to make various dishes out of for the family meal. Including live turtles. He said it was a little traumatizing to him as a child. As a little boy he had picked out a turtle at the market and had brought it home and was playing with with it, thought it would be the new family pet, but then found out his mom was going to turn it into a soup.

Im sure American farmers, killed a few pets for food. My grandma would never cook or eat lamb because her dad killed her pet. Asian wet markets..yuk. So glad Im a spoiled American. lol and for god sake no puppies.
