To all members who celebrate this time of the year for religious reasons, and those who don't, here is to wishing all of the best to you and your nearest and dearest.

We spend a great deal of our lives on this forum bickering with each other about issues that we believe to be important to ourselves and our nation. It is only during this time of year that we exchange greetings and well wishes. This is what can be described as the Kind Season of they year. And yes, it is lamentable that it is such a short period out of the entire year.

Which brings me to the concept of being Kind. We usually think of it in terms of being kind to others and kind to animals and the environment. While these are noble aspirations we overlook something important. We need to be kind to ourselves too. Things have happened in the past year, and will happen in the new year, that were out of our control. Getting laid off, dealing with a sick relative, the transmission failing, the roof needing to be replaced, not having the money to fulfill the promise of taking the kids to Disneyland are things that happen to all of us at one time or another.

Beating ourselves up for those things that are out of our control is being unkind to ourselves. We did all the right things and we still came up short because we cannot control everything in our lives. Crap happens occasionally and we need to let it go because berating ourselves for those things is not going to make them disappear or resolve them.

So the message here is to be kind to ourselves for the things that happen out of the blue. And not just at this time of the year but all year long. Make a New Year's Resolution to be kind to yourself. When you start doing that things will fall into place. You will discover that you are more willing to be kind to others, to forgive them for small transgressions that otherwise you might have become all bent out of shape about.

This willingness to be less critical of yourself and less critical of others improves your mood and the mood of those around you. This kindness becomes infectious and spreads itself around. We start living our lives the way we want to be as a person and not as the person that is expected to be in control of everything.

    Crap happens!

    We make mistakes!

    We are human!

We can be kind to others!

We can be kind to ourselves!

We can be HumanKind as it was always meant to be!

    Just my two cents!

Happy holidays to one and all!

    Kind regards
    DT
