Another fun fact is that gas is making up for rather steep coal decline.

And, clean energy is growing at the rate of growth of our national demand for electricity.

One could view that as clean energy providing for our growth in energy demand.

I think that may continue. With the midwest investing in wind energy, I could imagine that being attracive to a number of industries that depend on significant amounts of electricity - such as aluminum.

Let's say they used to depend on cheap coal energy. As coal retires (due to increasing public distaste for coal sludge, soot, acidification, mines, warming climate, for example) corporations could view that as a good time to look for cheap property in locations where there is a booming energy business.

I found the link by searhing on "australia musk battery" and got that site. BUT, now that link doesn't work for me, either!!

Here's one on the same project from Popular Mechanics, which actually does a better job of explaining:

https://www.popularmechanics.com/sc...on Musk, experiences bad blackouts each summer.

    Sorry about that!

Your ""GE Sucks" comment may be spot on here. The article I read said they chose a good turbine, but they omitted technology that would allow the turbine to speed up fast enough to meet meet spot demand that they were counting on.

Also, the $57+ per MWHr may have been affected by any of the various factors that would affect the cost of the plant. The plant cost $1 Billion. In my world, that means a lot of interest.

The Australia battery is pretty incredible in terms of demonstrating potential/progress. And, the GE site in CA is going to be used for a gigantic battery facility.

The most developed foreign markets in the world are already transitioning to renewable energy, the question is are we going to capitalize on this shift and be the ones to sell the world their renewable energy technology, or are we going to continue to invest in energy sources that the developed word is buying less and less of?

    Amen!!

Today, China pretty much owns the world market for clean energy technology. They own more patents, produce their designs at world breaking pace, sell more clean energy technology world wide than even Germany, and are also world beating at their own installaion rate.

It's a huge industry, and we seem to be simply ceding this whole new economy sector to China - and maybe some to Germany.
