Reparations for Slavery.

Now that President Obama is near the end of his second term I think he should do something big. He needs to propose a bill for reparations for African-American slavery. He still has time to do this and present it to Congress before the end of this year.
I'm going to encourage everyone I know to write him a letter asking him to do a reparations bill. 2 million dollars for every African-American in the USA over the age of 18 years. What do you folks think? Is that enough? This should help Blacks become solidly middle class.

HMMM......all original slaves are due some form of reparations (IMO). All proven ancestries of original slaves should get a percentage of that reparation by percentage of proven lineage <ie....great, great, great grandfather was a slave. You get 1/6th the original slave reparation (6 generations removed)>. Of course, all receivers of reparations must repay all government welfare/programs first before they receive they reparation.

Sure! Sounds good to me. So, if an adult male slave sold for $1,200 dollars in 19th century money, how much would that be in today's money? Also, does this apply to EACH slave ancestor? If so, this will be a lot of money.

Where you got "$1,200 dollars" is beyond me! The internet is more than social media (or is that just a wild-buttock guess?).

The prices you quote are not accurate. The value of adult, male slaves was high. $1,200 at least. Females and children were a little cheaper; in the $400.00 to $800.00 range. Well at least it would mean that Ferguson and Baltimore Blacks would no longer have to break into CVS pharmacy stores to steal packs of Charmin toilet paper before torching the place, and so that WOULD be a plus for the nation.

But I foresee some difficulties. For one I do not see the nation's huge numbers of Brown Hispanics feeling soooooooooooooo much sympathy for the history of Black angst that they are willing to dig deep into their pockets and pony up their tax-payments to fund a millionaire lifestyle for Blacks. So in the end ONLY White hating White liberals and Blacks would endorse such a bill and that's even with the bulk of the Left-aligned Mainstream Media going to the wall for Blacks on the proposal while intimating that anyone (but NEVER actually naming all those Hispanics as a group) not voting 'yes' were r-a-c-i-s-t-s.

The time for this if it was to be done was when those who were slaves were still alive. We have had 150 years since slavery was abolished. Continuing to harp on it does no one any good. Half the world back in 1860 slavery was still legal in it and practiced. We as a nation were no better or worst than other nations being right in the middle. The last country to abolish slavery was Mauritania in 1981, although slavery wasn't made illegal or a crime in that country until 2007. Here is a list of countries who abolished slavery in the 20th century.

1900–present
1902: The Ethiopian Empire abolishes slavery (though it was not legally and officially abolished by Emperor Haile Selassie until 1942).
1906: China formally abolishes slavery effective 31 January 1910, when all adult slaves were converted into hired laborers and the young were freed upon reaching age 25.
1912: Siam (Thailand) formally abolishes all slavery. The act of selling a person into slavery was abolished in 1897, but slavery itself was not outlawed at that time.

Nah. There was millions and millions of dollars made off of slaves.

 

billionth and billionth of dollars has been already paid.
In addition, people with pale skin were discriminated for more than 50 years.
Overwhelming majority of those people have nothing to do with slavery.
