nobody alive today was a slave, nor is anyone alive today anyone who owned a slave, thus reparations are unconstitutional.

which has no chance of actually happening, as it is unconstitutional. Do you think you can be fined or imprisoned if your great great grand father robbed a bank in the early 1800's?

Reparations are not a punishment. They are meant to repair a group of people who were wronged.

So as long as we're getting paid for being "wronged" by other people, you're gonna need to get your checkbook out.

In the beginning freedom for African slaves was unconstitutional. But, they were eventually freed.
    So, what is your point?

I see this thread is currently attracting several trolls who have nothing of substance to add to the conversation.
So, I'm going to leave it for now. I will come back when I learn more from President Obama or others who are working for reparations.
Take care. Have a nice day.

    "Chattel slavery
As a social institution, chattel slavery (traditional slavery) denies the human agency of people, by legally dehumanising them into chattels (personal property) owned by the slaver; therefore slaves give birth to slaves; the children of slaves are born enslaved, under legal doctrines, such as partus sequitur ventrem ("That which is brought forth follows the belly").[20] They are also may be bought and sold at will.[21] Although chattel slavery was the usual form of enslavement in most societies that practiced slavery throughout human history, since the 19th century, this form of slavery was formally abolished.[22]" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavery#Chattel_slavery
Humans being held as slaves in any form is abominable. Historically, they have been held as chattel. How does pretending that this was something invented recently make it worse? The country paid a terrible price for slavery. How can that be ignored and some concept of debt reasonably transferred to generations after the fact?

    of course they are.
the people who were wronged are a very long time dead. Nobody alive today was a slave. Thus, they are unconstitutional.

my point is what you propose is unconstitutional, and has no chance of being implemented, outside of passing a new amendment.

So they have blood samples from people alive in the 1700s? Do you not question that information?

Genealogy databases were originally created from contributed files, some of which were my own. I made a typo on one of my entries, and that error is rampant all over Ancestry, Roots Web and others I couldn't even begin to name. It is a source of amusement as according to the error, one of my ancestors gave birth at the age of 108, after she died.

It also proves that people will blindly accept information that they have not verified. In addition, the LDS site had my grandparents listed with 'No Children', which by natural proof is false, with their place and date of marriage incorrect (I have their engraving plate for their wedding invitations). The errors in online data have been proven time and time again.

While your lineage from Ancestry may correct to a T, it is highly unlikely.

Maybe a new amendment is coming. They say the Constitution is a "living" document; that means it can change and adapt to the times. Reparations are being discussed by many different people. Some people want to take the suffering Black people endured under Jim Crow into consideration. That would be very EASY to prove.

You are overlooking one point about the US Constitution. The fact that due to the prevailing attitude among a lot of the people in the US as well as a lot of the Congresscritters...is that the US Constitution is considered to be almost a sacred document. Getting an amendment to it takes a lot of effort. Like huge amounts of effort.

Something like reparations? Whelk's chance in a supernova. For that to happen, it would require that Congress vote to part with our tax dollars on something that will not benefit them. That wouldn't likely happen at the bill level much less going the full monty of Constitutional Amendment.

The cynical side of me says that this an attempt by people to get their hands on large amounts of public money.

The democrat "promise of reparations" is much much more valuable than "reparations fulfilled" so I highly doubt this will come to pass. The value of a carrot is minimal, the value of a dangling carrot is enormous.

So how did the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments get passed into law? They weren't popular amendments at the time they passed. Most White people didn't even think Blacks should be freed from slavery, let alone have any rights.
The first Constitution codified slavery. It took those 3 amendments to include the freed slaves as real US citizens. (Although most people would argue the freed slaves still didn't enjoy first class citizenship for many more decades).

Anyone sitting around expecting a "reperations" check in the mail would be better served getting a job. I just deposited two paychecks into my account. It was a satisfying feeling. No one gave them to me, I earned them.

I'd go ahead and get a plan B if I were you :)
Society may need your contribution to productivity. We need more earners and producers. Free stuff aint free.

You say this thread is attracting trolls? I just read your OP, where you were advocating two million dollars for every black person. Was this ever a real thread?

Look at how many responses I've received on this thread. I'd say it's real. The 2 million dollars can be negotiated. :)

You are correct. Free stuff ain't free. Those slaveowners thought they were getting free labor all those years. Who would have thought the slave descendants would seek reparations some day?
