Republicans may not realize it yet, but yesterday was a great day for them

I am hopeful that yesterday was the start for the Republican party to free itself of Trumpism. The signs are there that Republican leaders finally say: Enough is enough.

What this will hopefully mean for the GOP:
-No more blind adherence to one man, i.e. Trump
-No second run for Trump in 2024
-No run of Ivanka or Don Jr. in 2028
-Republicans can finally speak their mind again without fear of being destroyed on twitter by Trump
-No more loyalty to a man over loyalty to the country and principle
-Return to normalcy instead of the daily shi$ show
-No more daily defending of the latest Trump reality show outrage

If I was a Republican, I would celebrate the start of the liberation of the party from the Trump death grip. It is sad that it took violence and casualties to achieve it, however.

It probably depends a lot on whether support for America First, antiglobalism and individual liberty will continue to be misidentified and/or strawmanned as 'Trumpism' or not.

I'm hopeful that Leftists will finally get over their TDS.

Newsflash, Sufferers: Everything isn't about Trump.

I have agreed with those who say that the integrity of the vote is paramount. It is far more important than party or any one individual. And if I believed that Trump and his toadies had merit, I would have supported them. But they didn't. They forged ahead without any real interest in the integrity of an election - only support for one man.

I was encouraged by the Republicans who discounted the objections last night, especially those who showed the reality of the numbers rather than Trump math. I'm hoping that some Trump supporters actually listened with open minds and recognized the folly of Trump's claims. And I hope, as you suggest, that this is a new start for the Republican party.

In Trump's little mind, everything is about Trump.

As to TDS: Is it still TDS when people criticize Trump for not preventing his supporters from storming the capitol to overthrow the lawful election of his opponent? Was it TDS when, for four years, Trump critics have warned exactly of what has now come to pass? I don't think it was TDS, it was seeing the man for what he is, not what Trump fans like him to be. He is a self-serving narcissist, unfit for office, who'd destroy America and the constitution if it served his own personal interest. Well, he came awfully close, thanks to people like you who still defend him.

Look at that train wreck of a Covid bill that the REPUBLICANS AND DEMOCRATS created. That was an America last bill. I look forward to primaries where the worst generation (boomers) are swept from office and people like Josh Hawley replace them.

Gosh. Framed in a response from a faithful democrat, isn't this calling out your own proclivities to cling to your own party's failures? Biden? Clintons?? This is rich...

We are not paying for it. Our future generations will be paying for it, just like they will be paying for Trump's tax cuts.

Back to the topic, however. What can you add to the topic of the Republican party being released from the death grip of Trump?

No, Trumpism was Trump first, rather than America first. Laying off Trumpism has to start with acceptance that Trump is now a pariah, rather than America's savior.

Straw man. The Pakistan gender studies constitute spending. Taxes are the fuel of said spending. We do not have to "pay for tax cuts" if we do not allow our politicians to spend our tax dollars on preposterous boondoggles such as Pakistan gender studies. The US taxpayer should not be paying for things like Pakistan gender studies (and horse racing in Kentucky or NASCAR) during the best of times, let alone a time when millions of your neighbors have lost everything. This congress has reached new heights of cynicism and tone deafness.

Both parties are corrupt to the core. We no longer live in a republic, but rather a plutocratic corporatist oligarchy, beholden to monied special interests who actively maintain the duopoly.

That said, a man far smarter than me once said "we get the government we deserve." Never more true than right here, right now.

Trump is a terrible human being. Seriously, the worst. He has deep psychological issues and possesses the oratory skills of a 3rd grader. His ham fisted rhetoric was easily debunked by anyone with a modicum of intelligence.

But in his own inelegant bumbling way, he gave the American people the greatest gift of the epoch: He bulldozed his way down the middle of the duopoly, exposing the rank hypocrisy and just sheer disdain the elites have for the people. He ripped off the scab and shone a spotlight on the dirty ugliness that is our body politic.

"愿你生活在有趣的时代" as the old Chinese curse goes... May you live in interesting times.

People on fixed incomes are paying for it right now. When the government prints new money, their buying power declines.

    hahahaha

the arrogance! No pal, the american people will decide who supports what, not republican senators and house members.

unfortunately for the left, they the party of partisan and sham impeachments, defund police movement, antifa, socialism, sham investigations against a political opponent, race hustlers and race race baiting, riots, illegal immigration, sanctuary cities, election system corruption (changing rules unconstitutionally prior to elections).

so pal, why would millions of americans just jump ship, either move to left or to rhino side? There aren’t great things to support or even look at on the other side. Unfortunately, trumpism is the best counter to all this radical leftist nonsense and rhino republicans, it’s why trump was put in office. John mccain and romney couldn’t beat the left in elections, they brought a knife to a gun fight. Trumpism is here to stay.. 70 millions americans are on board.

Your post demonstrates that you are a compulsive feeder of fake news. Elections should be free of fraud and trusted by the vast majority, even among those who lose. We don’t have that, and the huge number of stories about potential election fraud that were running in mainstream media right up until election day indicates that if Trump had been declared the winner, Democrats would be running around screaming fraud. We need a system that is obviously trustworthy enough that the vast majority of people will trust it. Even Jonathan Turley is calling for a Federal Commission to ensure election integrity.

While Trump continues to dominate your mind, he doesn't dominate ours.

Well, if the Democrats had rid itself from the "Pelocist regime and Schumerism" then we might approach a sense of "normalcy" instead of heading down the treacherous road to socialism.
Given the choice, I would have suffered through another 4 years of "Trumpism" every time.

All the more reason to invoke the 25th! Yesterday's insurrection, inspired and started by Trump himself, is proof beyond a reasonable doubt he is unfit to be president. We cannot afford to wait for two weeks with this madman at the helm.
