An armed society is a polite society. Just had to get that in. Why is it rude? Throughout history people had immigrated to this land and joined others from their country and never learned English. Their children would generally learn the language of the land and translate for the parents. I had a Hispanic neighbor that had a Brazilian nanny for their 6 year daughter that spoke 3 languages natively, no accent on any of them.
Seems rather rotten behavior to me. So everyone has to revolve around you like the earth revolving around the sun?
um, considering my job and knowing that they speak English masterfully, yes I am correct in demanding they speak English while conducting official business with me. I believe I would be backed up by my supervisors if this became a real issue.
In public: speak the language you want For citizenship: mandatory English test, which already exists, but obviously illegals don't care In a social outing: speak language everyone understands
That argument doesn't hold water. Fools will be fools, no matter the language nor their origin. If fools have some impact upon a person's life, then the question needs to be asked, just whom is the bigger fool? Besides, I have found in my travels that New York and French people are the rudest people in the world, until you meet the individual and find they have a person. So is it really a matter of defense for perceived rudeness on your part?
Oh, well, if your SUPERVISORS backs you up that certainly answers the ethics question, doesn't it? So, what is you "job?"
There you go, you have choices and you made it but why does that apply to anyone else? There are so many people with so many situations but each person is unique and must do what is right in their life. Unless they are your slave, then you have no say. By the way, Rome didn't turn out too well there, did it? So why would I want to follow some plea to antiquity that failed? But then again, with the current trend of collectivism, not far away from being Romans.
Sort of like Miami, depending on which street corner you stand as to what language you hear, but it probably won't be English. But I would agree with you that New York has more languages spoken on the streets, even English. And I'm always hoping they are talking about me, but that's just outstanding ego.
Isn't the purpose of immigrating to a new country to become part of that country. How do you assimilate if you can't speak the language? How do you ever expect to hold a job when you can't communicate?
You feel do you? And this feeling gives you command authority over another being and can dictate the manner of how they live their lives? Sorry, your ownership papers are not valid in this land.
What a curious claim. If there is a group of people you are with, they all have a 100% obligation to be communicating to you and speaking loudly enough and in English for you to hear what everyone is saying. Do you also demand everyone only speak one at a time to so you can hear what everyone is saying because, after all, they are all there for you? "Everyone else stop talking. Now YOU! Look at ME when you're talking! Speak clearly to me while looking at me" sort of thing. It must drive you nuts if someone whispers something to another person. "Hey you two! What are you whispering about? Tell me!"
English is the official language of this land barely. It will not be more than a few generations where Spanish will be the official language of the land and English will be spoken by small pockets of those refusing to learn Spanish. Except for a right stolen by Article I, Section 8, Clause 4, what right is their for anyone to be deported? Travel is a fundamental human right, otherwise no one would be here. Even what is called native American migrated across the land bridge by way of Alaska.
Lasted is the key word. As to how long the Roman Empire lasted depends on how you measure it. A thousand years is through all it various manifestations.
You are the first person I've heard with an argument to make speaking a different language illegal. Can't you get closer to reality? How's this...let's encourage immigrants to learn the English language so that they aren't trapped into picking strawberries or cleaning toilets the rest of their lives as serfs for liberal elites.
The official language of the US should be English, that is all government documents should be in English. What people speak among their friends family and community I could care less. I just don't want to see the joke that is Europe where you have forms in 10 different languages. At this point I wouldn't even mind having two official languages, English and Spanish but absolutely no more. The line has to be drawn somewhere.
I take it you are unfamiliar with the concept of an "Opinion" and how debate is meant to function. Perhaps clarification would be helpful: 1) A topic or idea is forwarded. 2) Individuals reply with furtherance of or expansion with pertinent data. 3) Discussion entails. This process continues with rebuttal of points and data submission. Unfortunately it is interrupted at times by emotional outburst which interrupts and often derails the intent resulting in attempted correction and waste of time and effort in order to put a debate back on track. Immigration into an established nation requires integration if peaceful and effective results are expected. One cannot expect 1000 people to bow to the needs of one especially when they are your host...that is not just rude, it is cruel inconvenience. Added to this in my scenario would be the expectation of service being presented and the burden being dramatically increased on the host to offer convenience and safety. This is an affront rather than a showing of appreciation.
You are living on land stolen from Mexico..I think all Americans living on stolen Mexican land should be forced to speak Spanish....Comprendo?
I think they should speak whatever they want. However, NO COMPLAINING when others are unable to communicate with them if they dont learn english.
