White people should start moving in mass to Mexico and refuse to learn Spanish, and demand Mexicans embrace their arrogance. Then guys like this @Ronstar would be changing his tune real quick.
It is not really the immigrants in themselves that are the problem here; it is government because government caters to the immigrants, disincentivising them from learning English. Anyways, translating ballots, menus and signs is by far less costly than putting up gigantic, State-run programmes with the purpose of teaching immigrants to speak English. My argument is that immigrants will pick up the language whether they like it or not and the chances of American English "dying out" is nothing but apocalyptic irrationality.
Well, most immigrants are not coming here to retire with their children. Most are coming here for a better life. That means you need to work. That means you need to assimilate. As a man who has employed and hired a great many employees, I can tell you that if you don't speak English in this country your employment choices are limited to the lowest rung. You will be destine to most likely live in poverty or very close to it.
If a person wants to immigrate to the US I believe they should learn English as a requirement, and it should be the language on all official documents. I base this from a belief that you should be integrating into the society that you are immigrating to, and I hold this to myself also. If I was to move to Brazil I would learn the language and I would expect it to be a requirement for me to learn the language. To move to another country and expect that country to cater to my needs is wrong. I moved there by choice.
I agree. that's why I said that most immigrants want to learn English. It's just hard. Have you ever really sat down and looked at English grammar/spelling/etc. rules? I did when my sons were younger. Just when I got a good pattern going for my oldest son to learn how to spell, we would encounter a new exception, and have to learn it. English is a pretty irrational language, being a combination between the Germanic languages and the Romance languages. We have rules from both that are just a pain in the ass. There is just no need to have an official English language. I think we should keep English as our language for documents, but other than that, people need to use the language they want to. If they want to choose a language that doesn't allow them to make money, that's their problem for making that choice.
The official language is English, at least currently but Spanish speaking people, at current rates, will surpass English speakers and then... Well, let's not forget China, at the rate they are converting that worthless green paper into hard assets, the official language may just be Chinese. I'm glad you have drawn your line to not mind having two languages, but please answer one question, the whole base of this argument, what right do you have to force your line upon another? What manner of coercion (violence) would a person be subject to if he don't agree with your "line"? Also, having things in multiple languages is the sign of a civilized society wishing to communicate and understand each other. The US has always been know as a very rude society, thinking they are better so everyone should be like them attitude.
I pretty much agree with you 100%. People in our country (well since before we were a country, in colonial times) have gotten irritated at immigrants for not assimilating fast enough. Ben Franklin, while he admired their work ethic, thought it was horrible that the Germans in Pennsylvania were writing newspapers and store signs in German. No different than people irritated at Hispanics today.
Do what we've done for centuries. We haven't had an official language in this country EVER. Why make one now? Why use other countries as examples? I actually read somebody suggest we follow Mexico's lead. Really? We want to do what a corrupt almost 3rd world country does?
I am totally familiar with the concept of opinions; they are like butt-holes, everybody has one and they stink. Opinions have absolutely nothing to do with debate. Debate is to challenge any claims made by the other party. I would suggest you first learn a topic before you offer to help another, but I forgot you "feel" you can do it. You made a claim and I have challenged that claim but all you offer is another line of bull to deflect from no answer. The rest of your argument is a repeat, argumentum ad nauseam. So what do you do when they don't adhere to your dictates? Hang them?
On their policy of demanding immigrants assimilate, yes. It's how nations survive. Multiculturalism is unnatural.
If Mexico believes land has been stolen, let them prove a claim. So I guess no Americans are going to be forced to speak Spanish but that would be interesting to see in action. It would definitely be more interesting than watching buzzards have intercourse.
Texas once was a part of Mexico but Mexico treated the people of Texas much like the king did the thirteen colonies. However the difference, Texas was once free.
Of course not - I think we were fine prior to Obama's elections. We were becoming American in culture and putting casting our race/gender/sexual orientation as secondary to being American. Unfortunately, worthless Obama kept propagating identity politics, making straight white men enemy number one. Obama's presidency was a failure in the bigger picture. Thankfully, Trump has pretty much erased his presidency. Obama's best work was helping to repair our economy left impotent by Bush.
Official business is done in English. If you want to speak a foreign language on your own time that's fine. Most 1st world nations require you to learn their language before you can immigrate. Common sense tells you why.
Wow, a whole new version of history. So which part of the 1000 year rein are you talking about before of after 14 BC, the start of the reign of Augustus Caesar? The smart people learned the language of their conquerors and prospered.
I agree totally, all good citizens should have penalties and requirements. Not only should they be forced to speak English but they should be forced to vote and buy a gun.
The elite did, the common people did less (they spoke more vulgar latin) and I'm talking of the barbaric invasions (goth, vandals, franks, alans).
The large majority of millions that come here to live, not in freedom but just as a change of location. They still continue the ways they believe they have escaped. And guess what, they are receiving their desire.
Why would legal documents be different? That is most hazardous to sign legal documents in a language you do not understand.
