    >>MOD EDIT<<

Back before social engineering of the U.S. military and political correctness the Marine Corps had special training platoons at MCRDPI and MCRDSD.

CC Plt. (Correctional Custody), Physical Training Plt. (The Fat Farm) and Motivation Plt.

The Motivation Plt. was declared by liberals in Congress to be politically incorrect.

But the Motivation Plt. had a very high success rate motivating sh!t birds to put out 101% and becoming Marines.

Just like Navy/Marine "red line brigs" or Army "red line stockades." They were able to turn around Marines, sailors and soldiers who would go on becoming real warriors, well disciplined Marines, sailors and soldiers instead of being discharged with a Bad Chicken Dinner ( BCD ) Basically being punished and re-motivated and giving someone who ****ed up a second chance.

Red line brigs and stockades were declared politically incorrect by liberals in Congress during the 1970's.

    FYI:
Not all Navy/Marine brigs and Army stockades were red line.

The Camp Pendleton infamous brig before 1973 was red line and so was the Schofield Barracks Army scotcade.

Some Navy ships whos brigs were run by the ships Marine detachments were red line while others were not.

The Air Force standards were so high they never really ever needed a disciplinary stockade. If they did they sent the poor airman to an Army stockade.

In my battalion I was the designated P/T officer for remedial P/T.

I would gather my gaggle of out of shape beer drinkers and we would run up this hill in the heat of the day at noon.

Most of them made it with me to the top.

Then on the way back down the same trail we would gather up the stragglers and return.

    There were only 2 rules.

    1 - no smoking.

2 - you are not allowed to straggle on the way back.

Most of them made it back and to physical fitness. And it was fun.

One of my "clients" was an Arty captain. It took him a couple of weeks to get back into shape. He came to us from the Boat School.

I ran track in junior and senior high school -- the 220 and the 440. That's how I first became a runner. Back then it was for basketball. Eventually I was cut by the BBall team and drafted by the Football team for linebacker.

Eventually I graduated to 1 mile and 3 miles and 5 miles working for the USMC too.

    Loved it.

We had an officer candidate during my PLC OCC course at Quantico who cheated on a run.

    They kicked him out.

Another guy got kicked out for cheating on a weapons test.

Several more broke a bone and had to leave.

And about 10% DOR'ed. They could not take the hazing.

    We lost about 25% total.

By the time they graduate into the Corps they are normally quite fit.

But then smoking and drinking and w hor es take their toll again.

    Ergo the remedial P/T platoon.

    Sheep Sh!t ?

The longest run I ever went on was during boot camp. A platoon formation run. Which meant double time and you had to stay in step or you were pulled out of the ranks and was sent to the rear and it was considered to falling out of the run. A trip to the pits in the afternoon is what you could expect. "Squat thrust for ever" !!!

It was a 6 mile run, utilities and combat boots. At the end of the run everyone's utilities were soaking wet of sweat.

Longest forced march was 24 miles. Full combat gear, field marching pack, rifle, c-rats and two canteens of water. Just your typical Camp Pendleton day hike.

I've no idea why a thread on this topic was deleted. I'm not following that at all...maybe an admin can advise?

But as far as ArmySoldier's question, the real problem is with that profile. "Bad Ankle" is not a legitimate profile description. The soldier needs to be sent back and have a proper diagnosis on that profile. I wouldn't want to chapter a solder out, particularly if he is motivated and wants to be there, for such a vague medical issue that may have a simple fix.

Being in the infantry, at least in my era (62-64) was not for sissies. But I want to discuss with marines my deceased ex Marine Brother. Mike decided after i was drafted to do something glamorous i think He joined the Marines at Camp Pendleton, CA. Mike spent time in the Brig there and finally was booted out. He was 8 years younger than me and perhaps escaped the Army draft as well. I never sat him down to talk of this.

Mike always hated authority. I should have asked him about this but simply put out of my mind.

I never heard of red line. On Germany I did the papers to eliminate a former sharp solider who got the itch to get out then and there. We who knew him was trying to persuade him not to ruin his record. But he was removed using Section 8 as I recall it.

I wonder why my brother spent time in the stockade at Pendleton then booted out? What infractions would cause this?

This trooper in Germany decided to dress poorly. I do not know what he did at his assigned job. I had too much to do to worry then about that detail. I believe he got booted in 1963 and had rapidly gone from super sharp in appearance to looking like he spent his day wallowing in filth.

At Ft. Benning, to do jump school, first the men took a PT test. If you did not totally fulfill all of it as designated, you were sent to the Gorilla Pit. That was a week of all day long PT exercises. You could ace the whole PT test but not do all of the pull ups, and off to Gorilla you went. I never talked to any who endured the Pit.

At Benning, we had all branches of the military there to do jump training too.

All Navy brigs were operated by Marines. Not all Navy or Marine brigs were redline brigs. The most infamous red line brig that launched a Congressional investigation during the 70's was the Camp Pendleton brig.

The Army operated redline line stockades, not all Army stockades were redline. The infamous stockade at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii was redline well into the 70's. That stockade was portrayed in the book and the movie "From Here to Eternity."

Fort Leavenworth military prison had one block that was redline.
The infamous Portsmouth Naval Prison had a cell block that was redline.

    Prisoner:
    "What's that red line " ?
    "OUCH" !!!

Great explanation. Makes me wish I had talked to my brother at that time about his time behind bars. Even in civilian life, he seemed to end up behind bars. So far as I am able to tell, mostly for traffic court fines or failure to appear.

When I crossed KS, I did drive north off highway 70 just to see Ft. Leavenworth. A troop in my company at Ft. Ord was in a phone booth one Sunday saying goodbye to his parents when the booth door was opened by a knife wielding black trooper from East St. Louis. Those were some angry blacks. My assistant was black, 6-4, played pro football and was my go to guy when it came to handling problem blacks. I always thought he was sentenced to Ft. Leavenworth for the murder. (not my assistant of course) I had good rapport with my platoon so never had to do any real discipline. I led them, not shoved them.

The thread in question was deleted at the request of the OP, nothing more. The discussion is valid, however, in order to adhere to the wishes of the original thread creator I have removed his quoting from the OP of this thread but this discussion is perfectly fine to continue on.
