    Obama already did that.

In as far back as 2017 - "Senate Democrats have unveiled a revenue-neutral carbon tax proposal that they want to see included in the tax reform legislation in exchange for their support." - https://seekingalpha.com/article/4101929-will-congress-deem-tax-reform-worth-carbon-tax

    And Republicans? See here...

"Top GOP pollster finds overwhelming support for carbon tax by millennial Republicans"
“This is the first time we’ve polled a climate plan that has real positive appeal across Republicans and Democrats.”
"A new survey finds Republicans under 40 support a carbon tax 7-to-1. And a remarkable 85% of Republican millennials are concerned that “the current Republican position on climate change is hurting the party with younger voters.”
"But what makes this result so striking is that the survey was conducted by Frank Luntz, a top GOP strategist and pollster."
"The Carbon Dividends Plan that Luntz tested is from the bipartisan Climate Leadership Council founded by Ted Halstead along with corporate giants like ExxonMobil, Shell, BP, GM, and Ford. It was co-authored by former Secretaries of State James A. Baker, III and George P. Shultz, and has also been embraced by Americans for Carbon Dividends, an industry-backed group co-chaired by former Sens. John Breaux and Trent Lott."

Road and bridge tolls? Most of the damage done to roads and bridges is done by trucking, and trucks historically pay a lower toll and road tax per ton than passenger cars. So again, the public subsidizes the corporate use of roads as it is.
You advocate "private investors". Investors require profits. Taxpayers don't. Even if tolls are the path taken, government can make zero-interest or low-interest loans to get it done and then users could pay a toll without having to also pay for investment gains that inflate the cost.

The rich "consume" a small portion of their income. Therefore a consumption tax puts far greater burden on the non-rich income. BAD IDEA.

Really? How does that work? It doesn't. It's just a continuation of the failed "trickle-down" theory.

Yeah. Republican ideas screw the people and reward the rich.

Carbon Tax the best way ever to do nothing about the problem.

I think you're right but the point is that Democrats have been onboard with it for a long time, and now a few Republicans are coming along with the idea.

But I do think there are better ways.

I give Obama credit for the student loan programs he initiated, I use them myself and they have helped me tremendously.

I was actually worried that Trump was going to eliminate that but since republicans are pretty much spouting the same thing now I don't think I have to worry.

Why do something that even the greenest experts don't think is going to work? If the problem actually exists form over substance BS is the wrong thing to do. The real draw back after all is that if you do this then getting people on board to do something worthwhile after ward will be far more difficult.

There are multiple things it does but the main one is that it adjusts your student loan payments to the amount of income you make.

Basically right now I make very little money so am actually able to defer the entire payment which would be about 640 a month which I absolutely could not afford.

As you make more income the amount you owe goes up.

Also after 20 years of consistent payments the loan is forgiven. Maybe it's 25, I'm not sure.

Since I am still a full-time student I am exempt from paying them back right now anyways but I did take a short break and didn't have to pay on them yet because I didn't even have a job then.

That's just one of the programs for student help, there are others also that can help people in other ways and overall it was some definite help that Obama gave to us and I thank him for that.

Why should your balance be forgiven after 20 years? Did you not take out the loans?

I don't know why he put that in there.

But I am not going to argue with it.

I will tell you this though, until they crack down on colleges jacking up rates for students just because they get guaranteed federal loans then I have no problem not paying it back.

They are crooks and taking advantage of kids who simply want to go to college.

Maybe that's why he did it.

There is no reason my bachelor degree at a simple university should have cost 64,000 dollars.

Who pays me back for giving food stamps to illegals?

You folks want to hand out money then I want my fair share.

You want to cut all handouts for everyone then fine, I won't have an issue, but you can't pick and choose.

    And answer me this.

How is it that you have no problem supporting people and taking care of people who refuse to work, who simply want to game the system but kids trying to improve their lives by going to college you frown upon?

what the hell is up with that kind of logic?

This kind of thinking is exactly why democrats are losing.

    Why not?

    Who told you that?

If you want to debate me then do so but I have better things to do then chase you around a bush looking for your view.

Squidsy, it's like Ayn Rand and Social Security. They bitch about it until they benefit from it. Then they change their tune. You would too.

Why did you ask "why not" if you didn't know my answer was yes, I am against handouts?

If I can form an argument that justifies government subsidy for one thing, then anyone can form an argument for any other. It also gives ammunition for those who argue for progressive income tax rates.
I say no to it all

We are not against handouts, those are leftist lies told to you by your media masters.

Selective handouts that produce a return are just fine.

Investing in the youth of this nation to garner an education and become productive members of society ultimately has more benefits for us.

Giving a handout to some slut who just had her 10th baby is not productive.

Give me the money taken from me with a fair market rate of return denied me over the years, and we'll call it even.

Go peddle your desire for free **** elsewhere

So you are for free education?

Some would argue that giving the slut money is productive and will find a thousand reasons to argue with you. Further, they will vote for cretins like AOC who will promise it to them, along with free education

Absolutely I am for free education.

    On a condition.

If you maintain an extremely high GPA in college I believe your loans should be forgiven upon graduation.

I am going to school to be an educator and I have many, many more ideas but since that is our topic I will stick to that for now.

Suffice it to say that if I were Queen of America I would be dumping so much money into our education system (wisely of course) that it would change the direction of our nation.

And there are other giveaway programs I support, education isn't the only one but they must provide (hopefully) a benefit to the nation.

Without credit being extended to every person with a heart beat, you could have easily afforded school. Instead, they jacked your prices because of credit induced demand.

BTW, why not debt forgiveness for those who can easily afford to pay off theirs?

Yeah, so rich people can buy their way out of it while us peasants have to pay for it via higher taxes and regulations.

    How is that fair?

I'm not an economist so don't talk to me like I am one.

You will have to turn your debate to something I actually know.

I can't compete with you talking about economic policy or theory.
