So you think being a liberal is an insult?

Even Lee didn't want any ceremony.

The outrage from both sides of this is nothing but media and social media driven hysteria.

Right. Let's all feel free to vandalize what is distasteful to us.
    How moronic.

Go ahead. I prefer to be respectful to people and their property unless I'm given a reason not to be.

The source is Fake News CNN so I don't know how much credibility the story has.

So CNN actually went out on a hunting expedition looking for someone who might be related in some way to Robert E. Lee ?

Holly crap...Gen. George S Patton was the 4th cousin 5 times removed to General Robert E. Lee.

Chesty Puller was the second cousin to George S. Patton.

And if you ever been to the state of Missouri you will find 5 million who claim to be the great great grandson or granddaughter of Jesse James.

You will not be given a reason not to be. Vandalism is low class - the weapon of screetching baboons and brainless cowards who think stomping on a statue shows balls.

He's entitled to his opinion. You won't see right wingers protesting and trying to keep him from having his say. Also notice he says "might". Doesn't sound like a very strong conviction about it. More like he didn't want antifa on his lawn if he said otherwise.

Personally, I am against such actions by removal of a monument which is related to the US Civil War. It is an important part of US history, the United States has shaped and the confederates were now not the Nazis, who were rumbling around the demonstration!

On the other hand, it is strange that not all but many of these monuments were made in the 1950s and 1960s with the help of the racists, that is, at a time when the Klan and other racists were active in the abolition of racial separation, The equality of the blacks and the civil rights movement.

I guess a subtle way of looking at monuments is not exactly inappropriate. ;-)

Who is deciding to take these statues down, is it federal government or state government?

As a brit trying to understand it is difficult to get answers to simple questions from the news.

Sure ... as usual are the Democrats guilty only ... or is only possible that they are the bad ones, eh?
Totally impossible that any Republican is doing the same... o dear!

Mandelus, I think you have lost something in translation. I am trying to understand if this is local democracy, as in a decision taken by a locally elected people. Not whether it is a Democratic party or republican party decision.

Granted, I didn't think stomping and spitting on the statue was exactly noble (not because of who the statue is, I just thought it was disgustingly excessive), but evenso, it is symbolic of a changing attitude- like when Germans tore down the Berlin Wall.

Here's what people don't get. You can imply meaning in a symbol all you want to. Anyone can say a symbol means this or that to them. I can say the statue is a symbol of my God. I can say Robert Lee wasn't a racist or traitor or whatever, but he's the closest coming to Christ this world has seen. I can say he's the Devil himself. None of those opinions matter. Lee, regardless of his supposed intent, was a traitor to the state who broke violently from the nation and contributed to the death of thousands. He supported an institution that would continue to abuse the most basic of human rights. Would you work for a man that poked cats with needles or burned little children because of your sense of duty?

People try to make a correlation between him and Washington and the fact of the matter is, they are right. Neither deserves to be lionized. It's not that all men sin, it's that some are definitely held to a higher standard and while we can discuss these people historically, they should not be praised, but criticized. This goes for anyone. Anyone. That's the problem here. Instead of taking responsibility, people always want to point the finger at someon else playing monkey see, monkey do. Try that out. Terrorists can point to the US and say, "Well, they got their nation by being violent. Why can't we?" We all need to drop the things our ego's and petty senses of identity are attached to and move on. It's the only way.

Wouldn't statues like this be more appropriate?

Do we need to talk about your anger issues again? This disjointed and basicly meaningless post gives me concern that you are close to going over the edge.
