Well, while Democrats may jump for glee about President Trump’s approval ratings, two things they should know a) they could rebound enough for the GOP to comfortably retain their majority in congress; and b) it really doesn’t matter if the political climate is favorable to you if you have zero candidates to run in those elections. Yes, we’ve all heard the stories about thousands of candidates having interest to run as Democrats next year. How many of them are good, solid candidates? If all they can do is scream “I’m against Trump,” the GOP is going to win—again. The jury is still out, though the Democratic Party seems to heading for a collision course with their geographic wall. In Texas, that’s not even a debate because the Democrats have no one to run against Gov. Greg Abbott next year. Former HUD Secretary Julian Castro is also taking a pass. Meanwhile, Abbott is entering campaign mode, with millions in the war chest. His only threat is if Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick mounts a primary challenge (via Associated Press):

Democrats haven’t won a Texas governor’s race in nearly three decades, but a booming Hispanic population and the party’s dominance of the state’s largest cities have made them willing to invest in the contest to keep hopes of an eventual resurgence alive.

After high-profile candidates lost decisively in the last two elections, though, the party now finds itself in unprecedented territory for the 2018 ballot: with no major candidate to run.

Democratic leaders haven’t yet lined up a substantial name to represent the party and its message despite months of trying. Any continued faith in a Democratic turnaround in Texas is now colliding with pessimism that it will happen anytime soon.

“If they didn’t have somebody running for governor it’d be a symbol that they’ve given up,” said Brandon Rottinghaus, a political science professor at the University of Houston.

Democratic hopes for something of a state-based comeback drowned with Wendy Davis, who couldn’t break 40 percent of the vote in 2014. They haven’t won a statewide office since 1994......snip~

Looks like the Demos keep on having trouble with elections. Now can't even find someone to run for the governorship of Texas. Then we have heard how their donors just aren't putting out that money. Their DNC is in debt. They have no bench, and no message. What say ye?

Maybe Texas can pioneer a new and improved progressive party. One that doesn't foster racism and simultaneously create and cater to victim classes, but instead focuses on matters of actual significance, and does so intelligently.

    So what?

Texas is now a Republican State (that hasn't elected a Dem Governor in decades).

Why should the Dem Party waste money on a sacrificial lamb that is a sure loser?

It seems like the money could be better spent in other races (where the chances are better).

That it assuming, of course, that Texas hasn't been gerrymandered (in the GOP's favor) beyond the point of no return.

Texas is the conservative heartland. They have a foolish governor as it is, and Texas have birth to the George W Bush and Rock Perry nightmares . Trying to win Texas is like trying to win Arizona in the general. They are too far gone to be brought back.

Texas is a foregone conclusion. It's a uphill battle not worth fighting over , they are a lost species, believing in Anti Sanctuary Ciry laws, clinging to their guns, their bibles, aborted fetuses they believe are separate human beings, Texans are too lost to be reckoned with.

It's more productive to focus on states like PA, OH and MI where Democrats have a chance of winning.

Did you really just bring up gerrymandering in a statewide popular vote?

Yes Texas leans to the Right. But the leftness and the Demos thought they could change things up with governing Dallas, Austin, Houston, San Antonio, sticking to their major cities strategy. Not to mention controlling the major hub of where the illegals flock to get into the country. Something they would love to get their grubby lil mitts on.

Still we wont mind if they throw the towel in Texas. The less Democrats there are. The better off the country and states are.

They had high hopes for Baby Killer Barbie, but her history got in the way, so she got shipped off to D.C., where her amorality and sociopathic past is a big plus, and not a minus for Democrats.

Pure rubbish. Texas has produced many of the country's finest Liberals, and still is producing them. The Democratic Party is no longer a Liberal Party, it's a collection of special interests, mostly violent racist ones, and the mentally ill, which is why the Democratic Party loses here at the state level. No genuine Liberal would be caught dead being a member of the Democratic Party, especially after the scum enacted the 'Super Delegate' rule back in the 1980's. Just because talk radio keeps calling the assorted left wing vermin running the Democratic Party 'Libruls' doesn't mean everybody else is obligated to go along with that propaganda, and neither do Liberals have some sort of obligation to support anti-American garbage who need to be deported just because a collection of mentally ill sexual deviants, sociopaths, and genocidal gimps now have a national Party to claim as their own now.

You have yourselves to thank for the Yankee Bush and Rick Perry getting elected, and nobody else, so quit lying just so you can get pats on the back from your sick little peer group.

Scum, vermin, anti-American, violent racists, mentally ill, sexual deviants, sociopaths, genocidal gimps.

Your right wing Christian vocabulary when describing other US citizens is impressively Satanic.

There are almost twice as many people in Texas as the entire country of Australia. And they didn't even bother the field a candidate.

    Wtf.

This is the time for a "Dark Horse" candidate.
    Not a retread.
And that goes for all the Democratic Party. :oldman:  Especially Biden.

I worked for the GOP for 3 years before being banished(I took a billionaires money and then actively supported her truly conservative, independent opponent), and have since used my extensive skills and contacts to help get the underdog elected.

You'd think a drunk who has assaulted a police officer, or a deranged veteran with no endorsements, no money, and punched a pregnant woman in the stomach while dropping his kid off at school wouldn't have a chance in hell, but you'd be wrong.

I guess the Demos don't want Shelia Jackson Lee having any inspiration, huh?
