Hardly, the USSR collapsed as a result of their economic failures. Which were massive.

After that, there was a miserable period, so you can't say it's been 'up up since then'. They also had some trouble from sanctions after Crimea.

There are other problems with your narrative. The extreme levels of corruption have hindered economic growth, a lot. Their economic successes are in just a few sectors, like tech. Tech is getting hammered by sanctions, and by thousands of their highly skilled workers fleeing the country.

What's even worse, is that before the invasion it was roughly the 10th largest economy, and now it's roughly the 14th, and getting worse fast.

Not what I would call a success story..

Just a guess -- no idea what your personal relationships is - why you brought him up .. sans providing support for claim .. I do not know.

has nothing to do with me not believing you .. wanting to believe you .. on the subject of nukes.. while it may seem that way I am sure ..but the problem is not my lack of belief ... which albeit is off the charts .. it is because your claims are demonstrably false so often .. not just about nukes .. but about History .. supposedly your subject .. don't shoot the messenger because you don't vet your claims.. its just how things go .. when one don't know .. but make "defacto" claims .. that turn out to be false.

I didn't confirm anything. On the contrary, there are no agreements to trade in rubles or yuan, and the dollar is not collapsing.

What a laugh ... Hardly what - you repeated what I just said - as if it was new information .. as if this somehow negated what I just told you ?

Is this the latest in mind twisting tactics ? I posted - .. USSR was a massive economic failure .. you cry .. NO NO NO USSR was massive economic failure

You want to try to explain your behavior .. would be against the rules for me to comment further .. :) :bonk:

So they were no threat to NATO countries after they collapsed economically. So why did US/NATO continue the Cold War?

We're seeing the same thing happen with China. Australia and New Zealand feel threatened by China's move to the Solomon Islands. Australia is threatening military action if China builds a military base. Would Australia be in the right if they did attack China and the Solomon Islands?

I'm glad you brought up Gorbachev. You can find the discussion Bush had with Gorbachev in the newly released national archives and the many conversations Yeltsin had with Clinton as well. It's all documented very clearly.[/QUOTE]

Do you think Putin has been buzzing our ships in retaliation for the US ignoring his warning of NATO moving closer to Russia? Showing the US he's not afraid and that he won't back down? Birds do the same thing to animals and people when they get too close to their nest.

Yes I stand correct on that. Not sure if I was reading about land based ICBMs in NATO countries.

Yeah, that NATO site covers Clinton/Yeltsin as well

    SNIP
Declassified White House transcripts also reveal that, in 1997, Bill Clinton consistently refused Boris Yeltsin's offer of a 'gentlemen's agreement' that no former Soviet Republics would enter NATO: "I can't make commitments on behalf of NATO, and I'm not going to be in the position myself of vetoing NATO expansion with respect to any country, much less letting you or anyone else do so…NATO operates by consensus."

That is one perfect answer from Slick Willie....

I'm not really sure if it's a matter of "right" and "wrong". Different sides are going to have different opinions on what those adjectives *look* like. It's obviously not going to be pretty no matter how we slice it.

We sent aid, and people to help them transition to a market economy. That's the opposite of Cold War behavior. It's true that a lot of things didn't change. But a lot of people were concerned that Russia would go back to their old ways, which they did.

    You're babbling again.

You didn't respond on point, that their economy wasn't "up up up", or the problems related to corruption. Which included a number of responses from the West, sanctions, a big reduction in foreign investment, and more.

Is this the latest in fallacious mind twisting tactics ?

I posted - .. USSR was a massive economic failure .. you cry .. NO NO NO - and then explain how USSR was a massive economic failure ..
Explain your behavior .. who is the one "babbling" here .. a logic fail . of epic proportions -- what say you to this epic fail .. which is only being made worse by continued denial .. :)

Once again with the fantasy that they're in this alone.

And the 'neutral' are simply playing both sides until the East consolidates their immense advantage.

A lifetime of molecular level belief in the invulnerability and supremacy of the West ... appears to have created such immense arrogance that reality is no longer a factor for many people.

It won't make a jot of difference, long term. All it does it give the West a false sense of security, and thus drag out the violence.

    Resistance really is futile.

We didn't. Every NATO nation (including the U.S.) radically cut back its armed forces.
