Former Canadian Defence Dept., USSR/Russia analyst and diplomat, Patrick Armstrong, posts his latest Russian Fed Sitrep below.

His section on the recent Ukraine Sea of Azov incident is well worth reading.

But I particularly like his section "Nuggets From the Stupidity Mine" detailing the Royal Navy's HMS Duncan recent deployment to the Black Sea where they were buzzed by Russian aircraft. An event that resulted in this bollocks by one matelot:

"They had 17 aircraft, we have 48 missiles - I think we're going to win that one," to which Armstrong responds: "In the real world, just before they noticed anything, the first Kinzhal would have slammed in at Mach 10."

Yup, in the real world this is so true. But military propaganda and the prevailing BS we are fed by the media today are separated from the real world. Sadly. Playing with people's brains is what is in vogue.

RUSSIA INC. This report from Awara on Russia’s economy is much better than the one I mentioned last time. The authors argue that the Putin Team saw sanctions coming and proofed the economy against them: “Russia now has the world’s most self-sufficient and diversified economy capable of producing anything possibly made in the world. Russia is now for the first time in its history food self-sufficient while simultaneously exporting more food than ever before. With this clout, Russia is prepared to withstand the economic siege, that the US regime is hatching.” And it’s armed to defend itself. The sanctioners did not, as they thought, “have good intelligence“: “The single biggest error was to believe the propaganda lie that the Russian economy was totally dependent on oil and gas. Here they foolishly confused the share of oil and gas in total exports – which was and remains at the level of 60% – with the share of these commodities of the total economy, which in 2013 was 12% (today 9%)”. In short, Russia is well-positioned to go it alone. (It doesn’t have to though, all the countries on Washington’s hitlist are potential collaborators). As I like to put it, Russia has a full-service economy, few others do. I recommend reading the report (testy in parts, but given the mountain of anti-Russia nonsense, that’s forgiveable).

TURKSTREAM. Another big step with completion of the offshore section.

WESTERN VALUES™. The next time the US State Department solemnly declares some country’s election “undemocratic”, just laugh: ballot harvesting in CA and NC.

AMERICA-HYSTERICA. Finally we learn what Flynn’s “crime” was. He may have corroborated Pence’s erroneous statement that there had been no contacts with Russian officials and, like so many others, he lobbied for a foreign government. (His real crime, of course, was revealing Obama’s and that is why he had to be taken out first.) I hope this begins the end of the Mueller farrago.

Not exactly on topic but also relevant is the recent post by a former US Army Special Forces officer (TTG) taken from Col. Patrick Laing's blog.

TTG has focused on the recent bollocks of James Jeffrey, the US Envoy to Syria, wherein he announced that Washington is seeking a no-fly zone across all of Syria.

Do these people ever understand reality one asks? Obviously not. As TTG reveals when he cites the new Russian-Syrian integrated air defence system that is now active across Syria and describes Jeffrey'a and his Neocon chums as the "Coalition of the Clueless because to do as he suggests means all out war.

James Jeffrey wants no-fly-zone over Syria… all of Syria - TTG

BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:45 P.M.) – The U.S. envoy to Syria, James Jeffrey, said at a press conference on Tuesday that Washington is seeking a no-fly-zone over Syria that resembles the one imposed on Iraq in the 1990’s. “Remember we were present not in northern Iraq but over northern Iraq in Operation Northern Watch for 13 years. That can be a UN force,” he said on Tuesday.

Jeffrey said that the U.S. came up with this idea during a “small group” meeting on Syria with Germany, France, Great Britain, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Egypt. The U.S. diplomat said that the no-fly-zone could be observed by a joint U.N. force. “That can be a UN force. Under 2254 there is language on a UN-managed and operated ceasefire. That can be partner forces. That can be other countries’ forces,” he said.

Jeffrey then turned his attention to Iran, who he said plays a factor in whether or not the U.S. will continue to be present in Syria. “When we say we’re going to be present not forever in Syria but present until our conditions – enduring defeat of ISIL, as was said earlier, the withdrawal of all Iranian-commanded forces from the entirety of Syria, and an irreversible political process,” he added. This is flat nuts… Marx Brothers in Duck Soup nuts. Hail Freedonia! Jeffrey, Bolton and others, both in the USG and in the Coalition countries, want to attempt to impose a no-fly-zone over the whole of Syria in order to force all Iranians out of Syria and to ensure regime change in Damascus. It would take an all out assault by the entire Coalition of the Clueless to even attempt to suppress the Russian-Syrian integrated air defense and REC network in place in Syria. That’s all out war.

Reading both the foregoing posts one gets the impression of an over the hill, punch-drunk heavily bruised heavyweight boxer in the last rounds of a title fight flailing wildly at his opponent to avoid certain defeat. He's drained and tired and his once mighty knockout punch is slow and ponderous and easy to avoid...

With the infamous Gulf of Tonkin incident as historical precedent, there’s a real possibility that the U.S. government could stage an incident in the Persian Gulf that would allow the Trump administration to push for military intervention in the Persian Gulf targeting Iran.

TEHRAN, IRAN — Earlier this week, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani repeated an earlier threat to block ships from leaving the Persian Gulf if the U.S. government continues to seek to block Iranian oil exports. Rouhani’s comments came a day after the U.S. sent an aircraft carrier to the Persian Gulf on Monday in an apparent “show of force,” ending the longest period the U.S. had gone without an aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf over the past two decades.

While some – at the time – anticipated that the U.S.’ deployment of the aircraft carrier was an empty threat meant to intimidate Iran, new developments suggest that there may soon be a military showdown in the Persian Gulf’s strategic Strait of Hormuz as Iranian and regional media have reported that the Iranian Navy has deployed a large naval contingent of 58 fleets to the northern waters of the Indian Ocean near the Persian Gulf. According to Iranian naval commander Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi, the naval contingent is closely monitoring the area as they await orders from the Iranian government.

The large deployment follows President Rouhani’s recent comments delivered on Tuesday in Iran’s Semnan Province. Rouhani stated that “If someday, the United States decides to block Iran’s oil [exports], no oil will be exported from the Persian Gulf.” Rouhani had made a similar threat earlier this year in July. An estimated 30 percent of the world’s seaborne oil passes through the Persian Gulf and thus the Gulf’s chokepoint – the Strait of Hormuz – which Iran claims to “completely control.”

A day prior to Rouhani’s speech, on Monday, the U.S. military revealed that the U.S.S. John C. Stennis and its accompanying ships will pass through the Indian Ocean and arrive in the Persian Gulf by the end of this week. While officials claimed that the deployment had been previously scheduled, officials also told the Wall Street Journal that the carrier’s deployment was a direct response to Iran’s influence in the Middle East.

Notably, the Trump administration, on the same day as the announcement of the Stennis’ deployment, asked Europe to impose new sanctions on Iran and withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal, after U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo claimed that Iran had test-fired a ballistic missile that violated the deal. The U.S. unilaterally withdrew from the deal in May, while other signatories have fought to keep the deal alive, as Iran had consistently complied with the conditions of the accord.

Given the recent news of the Iranian naval deployment to the northern Indian Ocean, there is an increased chance that the U.S.S. Stennis will pass in close proximity to where the Iranian naval ships are awaiting orders from Tehran.

As a result, concerns are growing that the tensions between Iran and the U.S. could soon spark a military conflict. Indeed, just last week, Brian Hook – the U.S. State Department’s special representative on Iran — announced during a press conference that the U.S. would “not hesitate to use military force [against Iran] when our interests are threatened,” adding that the Trump administration has “the military option on the table.”

There's nothing left of the Syrian Army, the Syrian army is Iran/Hezbollah... remove them and you have anarchy and ISIL 2.0...unless of course that is exactly your aim.

How is it that the US can so openly promote anarchy in Syria and everyone just nod their heads?

Re this incident ^^^ I remember seeing it in the news... afterwards a Nato commander spoke of the enormous bravery of the crew.... staring down the 17 Russian aircraft.... I'm thinking, what an idiot. What were they doing there in the first place and why should they fear for their lives... unless of course provoking Russia is their aim and they are now praising these men for bravely provoking the Russians. A bit like hiding behind a big wall then occasionally throwing a pebble to see if the giant stirs.... these men obviously being the pebble

Americans are brainwashed by the medias, and only know what they are being told. The MSM are owned by the same corporations that financially support our candidates for office - so they are one and the same. To understand the extent of censorship towards any alternative news sources, Fortruss which is very informative and which I had mentioned on the forum quite a few times suddenly froze. It has the same headlines and stories that it had a week ago on the home page.

Other alternative news sources that didn't follow the Washington propaganda line, have also complained about problems over the years. Reminds me of the USSR. It's Big Brother all over again!
