(CNN)On May 21 2016, a handful of people turned out to protest the opening of a library at an Islamic Center in Houston, Texas. Two held up a banner proclaiming #WhiteLivesMatter. A counter-protest began across the street; video shows a noisy but non-violent confrontation.

The rally -- called "Stop Islamization of Texas" -- was called and promoted by a Facebook page called Heart of Texas, which had wrongly alleged that the Islamic library had received public funding. But the Heart of Texas page listed no contacts in the Lone Star state. In fact, it was operated by a "Troll Factory" called the Internet Research Agency thousands of miles away in St Petersburg Russia, CNN has learned.

One of the people who attended the rally later complained: "Heart of Texas promoted this event but we didn't see ONE of them."

The Houston rally sheds light on an effort originating in Russia to sow discord in the U.S. through social media; in this case it had real impact on the ground.




Not only were police on the scene, the executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations in Texas, Mustafaa Carroll, told CNN that his organization had contacted the FBI about comments posted on the Heart of Texas page before the protest. One of them read: "Need to blow this place up. We don't need this **** in Texas."
The protest was also discussed by Houston City Council three days after it took place.
Generating anti-Muslim sentiment in the US was one of the goals of the Russian campaign. CNN reported Tuesday that some ads bought on Facebook were aimed at reaching voters who might be susceptible to anti-Muslim messages, even suggesting that Muslims were a threat to the American way of life.
A source familiar with the matter tells CNN that Heart of Texas was among the 470 accounts and pages that Facebook turned over to Congress, following its investigation into ads generated by the Internet Research Agency. Neither the Facebook page nor a companion Twitter account @ItsTimeToSecede is still accessible. The link between Heart of Texas and the Russian campaign was previously reported by Business Insider.

True, but they sure are spinning conspiracies in the US.

 

Russia has been screwing around with western democracies for many decades. The BIG difference now is the influence of computers and digital media for propaganda combined with massive ignorance and internal politics allowing for wholesale manipulation of populations.

 

Islamophobia is a logical reaction to the study of Muhammed life, the quran and the hadith.

A man who got tortured in Palestine because he left Islam said that when he arrived in France and so the degree of cowardice of french elite about Islam that he felt like a jew who left Poland for Palestine in 1933.

The only thing I'm worried about islamophobia is that a part of the islamophobic people are racist, this is not tolerable either.

 

Calling for a rally (on Facebook) against Muslims didn't attract many Texans, thank God... but Americans should be vigilant.

Russians are not necessary to recognize that Islamism is an international problem, for the Russians as well as everyone else.

Which hadith? There were 60,000 of them written in Persia 200 years after Muhammed and most cannot be authenticated.

If you are not a Muslim, or even a hard line Muslim, you can be a victim. They are not 'racist' however They'll kill anyone of any background, just as their record shows.

 

Who care if they come from Muhammed or not ? Muslims consider them still sacred, and I don't even need to refer to maqtu hadith, in the marfu or qudsi one, their is already so much horrors. And even if we interest ourselves only to the quran, their is so many horrific verses, either the surate 4 verse 34 one. My "favorite" is the Surate 8 verse 17. The quran of threats (of the hell) and encouragement to kill non muslims.

 

How so? We're all aware of the Islamic attacks against innocent young people at concerts, restaurants, transportation hubs, and so on.

The fact that these ancient passages still exist is not a concern but the fact that there are people, Muslims, who still believe that crap is a real problem.

 

Many leftists consider that muslims are like the jews in the thirties, even if no jews get in the street of Berlin and murdered german randomly. I personnaly consider that our governement and the population is like the french in the thirties. Thinking that peace is possible with the nazis/muslims, even if facts show otherwise, giving them everything hoping the peace when just opening a quran would show people the truth of Islam. I generally see that the less a non muslim know about Islam, the less he red about the quran, the more islamophile he will be.

I think it is. Some muslims consider only a few passages of the quran ignoring everything violent (it would be like ignoring every moment of the lord of the ring where there is hobbits). But they will be always muslims who will consider those passages. I think that evil is deeply rooted in the quran itself and mad minds will always have their violence amplified because of this cursed book.

You're right about former Muslims, and they risk their lives every day by daring to speak out.

 

They're very precious. I especially appreciate brother Racheed because despite being extremly criticfull against muslims, he is not hatefull. Some former muslims become hatefull, I won't blame you, some muslims would kill them because of their choice, especially when they choose to speak out against Islam. Brother Racheed converted to evangelism christianism, and he succeed to be extremly criticfull against Islam without being hatefull against muslims.

I really hope that muslims would themselves reject Islam one day. I think it would be the best for them and for the rest of the world. I don't hate the muslims, it's really Islam I hate. But Unfortunately, I don't think that Islam make appear the best in humans.

Most Muslims don't consider the hadiths sacred.. Muslims are forbidden to kill women and children, the elderly and non combatants ... Whether they are Christians, Jews or pagans. They are also forbidden to kill livestock, destroy crops, orchards, trees and water sources.
