I am watching the opening defense arguments for former President yet eternal ****face Trump and am noting that his second attorney, David Schoen, is really not the brightest bulb on the tree, to say the least.

He just called Democracy "thuggery". LOL

Schoen just spewed a lot of word salad, most of it having nothing to do with the impeachment trial at all. "Sail forth into the sea, oh ship....thusly put the flapping of the sail and not the fapping of the gail." Yes, he really did say "fapping". I think he needs new dentures, poor fellow.

Also, the other lawyer, Bruce Castor, admitted openly that Biden won the November election. Apparently, Twitter is all ablaze over this major bigly revelation.

They are not doing very well at all, both of them.

I suspect that Trump will not pay them. He is going to stiff them. I dunno, as terrible as they both are, maybe I would, too.

    LOL

That's the history of trump. The only people who have ever worked with him were the ones on the bottom of the barrel.

I only watched a little bit, but I just checked my email and there were fundraising emails from the Democrats looking for a donation to impeach Trump. I thought I wouldn't see another fundraising email for a while after the 2020 election was over. But due to the Dems' dramatization, they've got some fundraising in.

Speaking of spewing a word salad, the pot and the kettle had a similar exchange. At least he didn't resort to name calling!

We do need to understand that, since Trump has no defense, any defense of Trump will unavoidably look ridiculous.

The fact alone that these guys decided to even take the case suggests that they are not very bright.

These guys might even get fired by Trump before the trial is over. Of course, unpatriotic Republicans will STILL put their personal interests before those of their country and protect him anyway. But this defense team is bound to make sure that those senators will ridicule themselves further in doing so.

I don't understand ... why would they need funds to impeach Trump?

Funny that, I'm on a lot of Democratic mailing lists and did not receive even one single fundraising email.

    Astounding, what?!?!?

In this instance, he may have a case. But then, he had to hire the same lawyers that sued him last year for trying to suppress the vote, so I doubt that they're true believers.
How pathetic is it that this is the best legal representation he can get, but then, he has the reputation of a seditious mobster so it's understandable. Nobody really wants to be a trump supporter anymore.

After watching day 1 all I can say is wow, Trump and the majority of Republican senators have got to be really pissed. Trump of course thinks he should win outright i.e. in the court of public opinion and the Republican senators need a spirited defense of Trump so they don't look even more ridiculous than they already are when they vote to acquit. I think Trump could help solve this problem by hopping on a plane to DC and take over his own defense, something I would dearly love to see . I hope Trump's lawyers got paid upfront because I think it's at least 4-1 odds that he stiffs them - it's the Trumpian way.......;)

Guaranteed were any one of the impeachment managers to call Trump a ***** for not being there to defend himself, he would be banging on the doors to the Senate Chamber within hours.

    Yepp. Trump's a *****. A ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** *****.

    Miau!!!!

I have not watched a lot of the trial. However, it appears that the democrats are wasting a lot of time presenting scenes of the riots in the capitol. Just about everyone on the face of this earth are aware of the riots in the capitol. They contribute little to nothing to the proof of guilt of Trump. They could also show riots in many other cities around the US in 2020 which would be as equally relevant.

The issue is whether Trump caused the riots, not whether riots occurred. Showing pictures of the riots contributes nothing to that proof.

Yesterday was just about arguing the constitutionality of the Senate conducting a trial of an impeached former president, this was passed 56-44. The actual trial starts today at noon and, if yesterday was any indication, the evidence will be compelling - in other words we haven't seen anything yet and I do believe the House will make a very, very strong case of tying Trump directly with the MAGA terrorist attack on the US Capitol on January 6.Yesterday the House reps were masterful, Trump's legal team was not - I see no reason why this will change......

They just announced on HLN, that the house would be presenting many more videos. We already know there was riots. I am sure the senate is also aware of this.

Yup, we're going to see a lot of video. What will be different is the House videos will encompass months of detail - not just January 6 and I have a hunch many Republican senators & representatives will see themselves on video. Should be a thing of beauty - you know the old saying, a picture is worth a thousand words a video is likely worth a million words, lol. Trump fans shouldn't watch, it will be excruciating....and Trump will go ballistic

If what's been going on in this country for the last few months is Democracy, then yes, it very much is thuggery.

I've long said that democracy in this country is very much an illusion, IF democracy is defined as a system whereby the electorate controls the government.

Caster deceptively read the line from the Constitution having to do with removing an official from office without mentioning the part allowing for the Senate to prevent an official from ever serving again. He did so while implying the Constitution only provides for an official to be removed from office and nothing more. It's not a good sign when your defense attorney begins the defense with an egregious misrepresentation of what is contained in Article 4.

I am sure it will excruciating. However, the only thing that matters is what Trump did or did not do to cause the riots. Keep in mind, that only Trump is on trial. I am not on trial. The republican senators are also not on trial.

It is my understanding that the primary reason for impeachment after he left office is to prevent him from running again. That decision should be left up to the voters, not a bunch of politicians in Washington.

Due process or vengeance of the political variety?

If the govt is so into due process, how and why were Clapper and Brennan spared their dose of due process? Bush? Cheney et al?
