    From CBS:

    And from CNN:

Senator Paul defends Trump's meeting with Putin, citing historic precedent and diplomatic necessity.

It shocks me that anyone would object to making an attempt to improve relations between two countries who possess 90% of the world's nuclear weapons, weapons that are on hair-trigger alert.

Even a minuscule increase in the probability of war between the USA and Russia is unconscionable. We should be taking whatever steps we can to reduce and mitigate that risk given the catastrophic consequences of such.

Unfortunately, some people seem more concerned with partisan gain than with promoting peace. It is especially troubling to see "liberals" jumping on the bellicose bandwagon. Liberals are supposed to be the ones calling for diplomacy and dialog. Instead, they more resemble the ghost of Joseph McCarthy.

Most people don't really care what Rand Paul has to say. In fact, Rand Paul has been pushing some very asinine bull crap thru the years.

I, for one, am in favor of diplomacy. The partisan outrage is ridiculous. I'm tired of seeing people who are so bitterly partisan that they'd rather see the country fail than have to give Trump credit for anything.

We are reminded again why Rand Paul is a target. Just hope he has good security and the perps keep missing him.

Is Rand also proud of our POTUS throwing his own Country under the bus as he did yesterday in that travesty of a play date Trump had with Putin?

Maybe Rand will also be proud that Trump apologized for "misspeaking" yesterday as he drove the bus over the US intelligence community.

It is surprising that the reasons why we have to keep the lines of communications to the Kremlin open need to be explained to anyone, but you've certainly pointed out the most important reason.

However, Lefties (please don't call them liberals) need to blame someone other than themselves for losing the 2016 presidential election so they're taking out their frustrated will to power on Russia.

Vladimir Putin is scum of the earth in my book but we've had relations with the Kremlin since 1933 and we kept communications open through exponentially worse times than this (the Korean and Vietnam wars, the Cuban missile crisis, etc.). As I said in the other thread discussing Paul's remarks I support his position on this matter.

Strange, I don't feel as if I've been thrown under the bus. Did I miss something?

Poor, innocent "US intelligence community" getting bullied by the duly elected president. How terrible.

I am also in favor of diplomacy but not in favor of our POTUS prostrating himself before our enemy and apparently undergoing a symbolic prostate exam in the one on one with a Colonel of the KGB...

Russia is not the enemy of America. And Trump did not prostrate himself before them.

I can't possibly imagine how Senator Paul would have the audacity to point out facts and solid thinking when dealing with a another superpower.
It certainly went over Blitzers head and I can't imaging how any of the deranged usual suspects here would even begin to grasp the reality of what Paul said.
You do provide another Christmas morning though, I thank you for that.

The left opposes Putin because he’s a white male nationalist and Christian who took his country back from the non-Russian globalist oligarchs that used to rule that nation.

    They want their control back.

There is a reason that there is no Libertarian nations...not freakin' one. And Rand Paul is a hypocrite to boot and likely compromised I lieu of this new pro-Trump Russkie comment of his. Yes, the RNC was hacked and these turncoat Republicans are proving they are blackmailable.

    Def: "most people"
That same small group of the usual suspects consisting of butthurt lefties that keep whining over their landslide election loss in 2016. They should save their tears for 2018, as it appears they are going to need them.

It is sad to see a fellow American stand with Russia rather than our US intelligence Men & Women.

What progressives and globalists fear most of all is an alliance of Western nations around nationalist values to counter their influence.

That's why they can't let the US and Russia be allies. Divide and conquer has always been their strategy.

This nation and its Constitution were founded largely on libertarian principles - they certainly weren't founded on the authoritarian principles that "progressives" dragged over here from Europe.

Paul isn't compromised in the least. Our country and its interests come before your party.

LOL - Now Paul's in on the conspiracy.

    Tinfoil hats for everyone! :psychoitc:

Well, the elites oppose him because of his nationalism and his traditionalism, but the rank and file oppose him merely because that's what they were instructed to do by the elites.

One does not have to possess any faith in the Russian government in order to exercise skepticism towards the incredibly corrupt and deceitful intelligence community.

Right. I don’t even really include the drones in my comments on the left anymore. It’s all about the malevolent force guiding the movement, and the primary actors who knowingly do its bidding.

But this is just another example of what the real fight is in the world today, going on behind the scenes of almost every issue. Globalism vs nationalism. It breaks down to one more additional level, but that’s a bit advanced.

The irrational hysteria over Trump and Putin

I do not want any president of the United States to gratuitously and publicly insult an adversary, be it Russia or China, but instead to hammer out difficult issues in private.
