According to the article he is going to a private Hospital to get follow up surgery from the terrorist attack on him by a leftist in his yard.

A private hospital grandfathered out of the national healthcare program.

    Another nothingburger outrage fest.

The fact that this story is even making the rounds masquerading as news shows 1. how gullible and stupid the average Trump-hating news consumer is, 2. how clickbait sells, and 3. how few people bother to read beyond the headlines.

Do you realize it is one of your own who was gullible and didn't read past the headline and started this thread?

Do you realize that the far right and libertarians are gullible about national health care?

More than 60% of hospitals in Canada are private owned. They have to follow government guidelines. The employees, managers, and owners make decent wages and profits.

Shouldice is a world leader in this type of surgery and has a unique and effective recovery process. Tom Peters wrote about the facility in his bestseller In Search of Excellence

As for the Canadian healthcare system it's not socialized (like the UK), it's single payer.

Yup. In addition most doctors in Canada are self employed, incorporated or in partnerships.

i agree that state owned and run hospitals are far superior to any other. our state run university hospitals have the latest tech, highly trained & experienced professionals and operate 24/7/365 , while teaching the up & comers to keep costs down... i wouldn't go to any other hospital...

So Socialist Canada and its socialist healthcare, have private for profit healthcare as well.

I thought the RW said that Canada's healthcare system is sooooo bad, people come to the USA from there for treatments?

I guess a Universal healthcare system and private healthcare system can coincide together.
One system for the general population, and one system for the wealthy.

Gov't run healthcare coexisting with private healthcare. In a socialist country. Go figure.

A system for the people and a system for the wealthy.

Just like many would like to see in the USA.

It is for hernia repair that has a poor record of success today.

The hospital in Ontario is supposed to be some kind of world leader.

My healthy neighbor went to a "pearl" of a hospital for his and
got a resistant infection that put him in a coma.
When he woke up he was on the waiting list for a
    combined, Liver - Kidney transplant.
After some time his kidneys and liver started to function again, not well.
But, well enough for sustaining life.

I wore a heavy steel hernia belt and one day I realized
my hernia spontaneously healed itself with long term support.
I have not needed the belt for a few years.

THAT IS NOT SUPPOSE TO HAPPEN
    BUT, I AIN'T GONNA ARGUE.

Why would he go to a clinic to get the best care possible, paid for out of his own pocket even though it happens to be in a socialist system? Hard to say. Probably because he wants the best care. Not a great political signal, but Rand isn't very good at sending the right political signals. Not like the politicians you kowtow who know exactly how to talk to their herd of sheep.

Nope, not 'grandfathered' out of OHIP. Ontario and other Canadian residents are covered, but Paul will be paying for his surgery.

It's neither. The clinic in question has been around longer than Canada's healthcare has been socialized. It's also a private clinic, not a nationalized one.

I don't explain it. I had hernia surgery a couple years after my cancer surgery. It is a very, very common procedure for surgeons and one of low risk. I'm sure he could have found a perfectly competent surgeon in Washington or Kentucky and had the procedure done at no cost since he is a physician himself. I assume doctors still don't bill other doctors. Going to Canada makes no sense at all to me unless the surgeon there is a personal friend.

Its a private hospital which receives government funding......LOL that describes virtually every US hospital as well.

He is paying for it out of his own pocket.

Canadian healthcare works better for the small stuff but it is inferior for the big stuff. I am far more concerned about the big stuff than the small stuff. When someone finds a system that is universal, fairly cost inexpensive AND provides the best care for the big stuff then I will be all on board. Until then every system on earth today is lacking in at least one of those criteria. Even Switzerland which is the model that I espouse is still very expensive although not nearly as bad as the current US system.

That was not the comparison as you well know, BleedingHeadKen.

Through the western national health care world Americans pay the most and get the poorer care.

I gave conservative and mainstream sources, while you gave your opinion.
