Should High School Libraries Be Furnished With Pornography?

I'll interpret that as a yes - kiddie porn belongs in school. Another courageous, anonymous lib saying the quiet part out loud.

You didn't understand what I posted I take it. It's a yes or no, depends on one's perspective of Shakespeare or bible porn being allowed or not.

Are you being hypocritical? You want gay sex showed by Shakespeare and incest by the bible to be allowed.
If those books are good for schools then other books similar can be.

Well, it was culturally acceptable to get married at that age. In that time people were more mature and responsible. Mary was married before Jesus was born. Joseph found no shame in her being pregnant. He would probably tell you to take your opinion on it and put it where the sun doesn't shine.

The problem in the UK's education system is rising teenage pregnancy, so they teach them at a younger age about sex education. So pregnancies rise. So the education system is up in arms, so they teach them at an even younger age, and the pregnancies continued to rise.

It's not rocket science, once you know something, you want to do it, you want to experience it despite advice. Most of us have told siblings about the perils of wasting money on cars, they still do it. Some are still paying a car off that they ploughed through a hedge and wrote it off, when they didn't need a car. That person said, "Dad, you were right". That person is my son.

But to put porn in School Libraries? That's the problem with society, you have to have a degree to work in education and all too often, degrees utterly dumb people down on life skills.

 

Exactly. Books with sexually explicit scenes have always been in our high school libraries. There's a difference between a book with a sexually explicit scene and pornography.

 

It's hardly the worst example. There's lots of explicit material in the Bible. Hell, in some Jewish communities you weren't even allowed to read Song of Songs until after you came of age.

So, how do we distinguish between books with sexually explicit scenes in them vs actual pornography?

 

Song of Songs! Now there's a good example of sexual descriptive language (howbeit metaphorically). You should read a interpretation of the original sin I read once. If you're familiar with figurative language it has to do with self gratification.

 

Hm, I'd be interested in reading that. And I absolutely agree both that Song of Songs is an amazing book and that there's certainly a difference between metaphorical vs more explicit material, and I could see a difference perhaps between text and visual representations.

However, for me, a work is only pornographic if the primary purpose of the work is sexual stimulation. Hustler? Yes, pornography. An action movie with two sex scenes in it? Not pornography. So I don't see how ANY work that only has a couple of sex scenes in it and is mostly about other stuff counts.

 

I mentioned previously the SC's ruling on obscenity in this thread that spoke to this issue being a matter of what type of speech is permitted. They struck down the community's ban on sexually explicit language. Although I'm supportive of communities having control over moral standards it can run into the dilemma of being careful about what you wish for. If the reins of power are taken by another you might find yourself in the doghouse.

100 yrs or more ago, there was no teenage pregnancy. It was the norm. Most girls were married by 18 yrs old.
But society changed.
Humans didn't. They still get horny when they get to puberty.

 

Do you know humans know something about sex urges when they hit puberty?
If teenage pregnancy is on the rise in UK, it's most likely because it's more visible.

Unless the age of puberty change recently.

 

Most people were religious, no sex before marriage etc.. Possibly the decline in social morals is juxtaposed with the rise in atheism.

 

You think sex education motivates people to get pregnant? Doesn't really make sense. Generally, sex education paints it all in a risky light. You could get HIV, you could get pregnant, look at how icky gonorrhea is. If they weren't already interested, it's not going to make them more interested. If they were already interested, it helps in getting them to do things more safely. Please feel free to provide data to support your claims, and then I'll probably show you it's spurious.

I got into a lot of trouble related to sex as a teen. No jail time or anything, but lots of headaches. The effect on my younger brother is he avoided dating until college.

It's not because of the advice, it's despite it. Unless you think they would otherwise have been unaware of the existence of cars/sex.

You're confusing roles. Life skills are from family. Reading, writing and arithmetic are from teachers. And looking up anything you're curious about: internet or library. If the library lacks it, it becomes even more irrelevant in favor of the internet.

 

Hence why many were married prior to 18.
Just because we chose 18 to be of legal age, didn't change human hormones and puberty ages.
In fact, with growth hormones in some foods, puberty for some happens earlier than in past history.

But I bet there was plenty of sex before marriage, it was just kept secret.
Morals are subjective and will change with society.

 

It would be a bad fluence for pornographic material be put into our High School libraries. There is no place for it.

No it shouldn't be in libraries but consider every student with a smart phone has unlimited access to the absolute depths of human depravity.
