You don't own a housecat and have never lived with one, have you. Housecats are having a great time stalking and killing everything from insects to lizards to rodents to birds. My cats are well-fed, but that doesn't stop them from massacring any small critter in my yard. Those critters are in no way endangering my cats, yet my cats slaughter them with joy. I watched my neutered male cat bat around a dead snake for 5 minutes. He kept throwing it so it looked alive, and then pounced on it again. Housecats are domestic serial killers. Dogs aren't much different. Had a bird stuck in my screen room. My well-fed boxer reveled in killing the mockingbird that got in. It's part of nature. We (and most other creatures) enjoy most of what we have to do to survive. That's why eating and sex are so much fun. It's part of survival. Hunting is just the same way.
Hunting for fun is just a way for the under endowed male to try and prove his maculinity....sick b.stards should have their heads examined...
Just curious, why do some variant of "hurr, they do it because their dicks are small" come up in EVERY debate about hunting? You realize women hunt too, right? Are they also trying to prove their masculinity, or because their penis is small?
What's up with the sudden homophobia? Gay people hunt too. Is this really all the anti-hunters can come up with? Ad hominems and projecting different assumptions on a group they obviously have no knowledge of?
What about hunters who think it is OK to hunt lions with bows? That dentist moron watched a lion bleed for 2 days before shooting it.
Bow hunting is illegal here, but legal in Denmark. They've managed to get the kill to injure rate up to firearms levels. So, if bow hunting is regulated like the Danes do, it's not really a problem. I'm conflicted about it though, since there will be a much higher rate of injured animals if the bow hunter isn't properly trained. But anyway, the Danes found a way to fix it, so other countries could too.
Hunting per se is not "evil". What bothers me is the hunting of certain animals such as lions, tigers, leopards, servals, and other cats. This because I adore cats. The only time I would allow hunting of any wild cats is when one has endangered people as has happened in India - for this, I prefer that they be captured and relocated. Same with other endangered species. But hunting for fowls and fishing should be allowed subject to proper regulation.
That's not a reason to ban hunting for cats. That's a reason for YOU to not hunt cats. I feel the same about ravens. I like them, would not hunt them, but that's not reason to ban the hunting of them for other people.
Federal law should REQUIRE all hunters to dress their kill and either take it home to be eaten or donate the food to charity to be eaten.
Again, not all animals are really edible. And in the cases where they are, hunters already do eat them, or donate the meat.
OK. Go ahead and go hunting for lions, leopards, and jaguars. You have my blessing to do so as long as you use a pen knife and a fish net.
No lions, leopards and jaguars around here. Only the lynx. And using a pen knife and a fish net would be illegal here anyway, so your blessing wouldn't do much good. Not that I would need your blessing.
Nope. If someone caught any animal in a net, and then continued to stab it with a knife repeatedly, it would rightly be considered animal cruelty. This is why most of the trapping methods from the old days have been banned.
Yet you said "any animal". There's other reasons to hunt too, like conservation efforts. Some old troublemaker bull makes it impossible for younger males to procreate, or starts killing newborns. The old bull has already procreated, so taking it out improves the gene pool of the pack.
If you hunt just because you like to kill animals, such as with Ravens, but with no legitimate use for the meat, it should be considered poaching. Aside from food, the only legitmate reason to kill an animal is to protect property such as lifestock. Ravens don't endanger livestock, so hunting them purely for sport should be illegal.
