Marijuana users can already buy guns. They can just walk right down to the corner, give some guy 200 bucks, and end up with a throwaway. In many cases the pot dealer and the gun dealer are even the same person. Very convenient.
sure as long as marijuana is legal in their respective state and they are not some gang banging thug with a criminal record and follow the law like other law abiding citizens. but just like anything else, it should still be illegal to carry or operate a loaded gun under the influence of mind altering substances.
I do not think that the fact that you do marijuana should be the deciding factor in a gun purchase, although the kind of people who do smoke pot tend to be the people that I don't want a gun in the hands of.
The only effects i can confirm that marijuana has to judgement are : 1. who you decide to have sex with 2. how much food is enough Probably the percentage of shooting stoners is lower than those of shooting while not be under any influence.
It is illegal for violent criminals to own a gun. I have no problem with that law. Sure, they might still GET guns, but it gives you a legal leg to punish them with if they disobey the law.
I don't understand how there is any correlation with owning a gun and smoking marijuana. What does one have to do with the other on any level?
Yes, they should be able to buy non-assault rifles and handguns and shotguns with limited clips (non-hollow-point-and-armor-piercing) and be background-checked but only from licensed dealers. - - - Updated - - - They'd prolly just sit there giggling at it.
I voted No. Why? For the simple fact that if taking antidepressents that are prescribed for you legally by a physician could ban you from owning a gun ...then ANYONE ever having used any form of depressant (pot, alcholol etc) should also suffer the same restrictions!
I think you'll find the reason for this is because prescriptions for antidepressants imply mental instability, while using alcohol and pot recreationally don't have the same implications.
I was just pondering this earlier. Question 11.e on a 4473 asks if you are an unlawful user of marijuana or other controlled substances. If you are and you answer yes that voids the sale. If you say no that's perjury. So would anti gun liberals support replacing 11.e with a drug test? The conflict there is that it is additional gun control which proves whether or not someone uses drugs rather than taking their word for it, however, it also further restricts the freedom of pot smokers.
why do you think they should not be allowed to protect their homes and family, once a person has done there time, I see no issue with them being allowed protect their homes and family, a constitutional right all Americans have you seem to want owning a gun to be a privilege rather then a right if a 'right' is not needed by some Americans, then you are really saying the 'right' is really not needed by anyone .
some want to restrict guns for those on anti-depressants and the like... saying those people should lose the right to protect their homes and families
their children and family had nothing to do with their past crimes or depression or what not, why do you feel they do not have a right to protect their families? I think owning a gun should be a 'right' like free speech.. how about you?, if you want owning a gun to be a 'privilege' like driving a car rather then a right, at least be honest about it .
I am honest about it. Felons lose thier gun rights. Period. Not thier free speech. They proved they can not live in society without preying on others. Cant protect the family? Oh, well. Should have been a man and not a punk and run astray of the law.
I support the constitutional rights of all Americans, even theirs and yours, when you pick and choose it's no longer a right... it's a privilege (if that is what you want, fine, I am ok with that) .
It's really not that hard. I can save everyone money on a gun safety class. Don't point a loaded weapon at people. And don't leave a loaded weapon in some random place where anyone can get to it. Class over.
Treat all guns as if they are loaded. Develop a straight trigger finger, especially for your hand gun. Learn instinctive shooting. As to the topic. How else are they going to protect their stash?
