Well, we don’t really have a choice. Viruses drive our evolution no matter who’s president or how we feel about him/her or our loved ones. Our only choice is to rail against the process or marvel at it.

Why would you ask that? How is that relevant to a virus’s role in the evolutionary process?

Comments like yours here and numerous others over the last couple weeks prompted me to read up on current research on the irrationality of moral superiority. It’s fascinating and I’ve been floating the concept in another thread by introducing the idea not going to the grocery store is morally superior to going with a mask. Well, I’ve certainly seen irrational responses to that idea.

To keep things brief, I’ll just add one researcher made the observation irrational moral superiority leads to increased risk of violence.

The fact that viruses had a hand in the evolution of the Human Species as it is now, does not in any way shape or form imply that they will have any effect in any future evolution of the Human Species.

This statement I just made is only schematically accurate, because what you are saying is so insane. It doesn't even make sense to speak about Evolution in the future.

It is immensely more likely that a pandemic will completely obliterate the human race, than it is that it will make us "evolve" (even under your SciFi channel level understanding of evolution) into another species.

"Evolution" the term as used in the article you reference, refers to gradual genetic changes in the gene pool that ultimately lead to the appearance of new species. Not only does this refer to changes in the genetic pool (not in individuals) but it means deep changes as they have ultimately led to different species.

I ask again: what did you think "Evolution" meant?

The article you referenced has nothing to do with evolution IN humans. Protein adaptation is not evolution. You completely confused two different concepts mentioned in the article. One is how pandemics, through protein adaptation helped in the Evolution that ultimately ended in the appearance of the human species. A different one is how protein adaptation helps us survive each pandemic as compared to how it helps other species.... and other similar topics. It has absolutely nothing to do with some "inevitable future evolution" that you seem to keep referencing.

 

Inconsequential?? They are the primary reason that this epidemic was able to gain any ground. They are the ones who said this virus was not capable of transferring from animal to Human. Even after Chinese doctors knew of the spread potential, WHO stated on January 14th “no clear evidence of human-to-human transmission of the novel coronavirus.”. They are the ones who didn't list this as a public health emergency until January 30th to which President Trump issued a Travel ban on January 31st, the very next day. It wasn't until March 11th that WHO issues the COVID-19 was a pandemic, well after China was inundated and under stringent lock down protocols.

For you to sit here and say WHO's action were inconsequential to us only shows your absolute infection of unadulterated TDS!

agree, I think it came here late last year, but the Trump admin is hiding that from us as they think it will make Trump look bad

I am guessing another 3 months and the "experts" will change their recommendation once again. They will likely want to quarantine the elderly and infirm , will establish guidelines for nursing homes and the rest of us will be "allowed" to go maskless.

~ There is evidence it was in Wuhan as early as October. Satellite data shows a big jump in activity at the hospital in October and November. Admissions for pneumonia and respiratory illnesses were way up. Mortuary and cremation records show a spike also .
