They have no problem living off the fruits of other peoples' labor when it comes to cashing in the dividend checks every quarter.

We had to maintain the status quo because Repubs resisted raising rates, and the Dems were too damn scared investing beyond T-bills.

I know its not a "deal" I was once robbed at gunpoint and that wasn't a deal either. If you want to have an honest discussion, don't tell me what I am thinking. If I didn't thing things through, I wouldn't have life insurance, long term care insurance and a retirement plan. SS is for people who can't or wont think ahead and should be preserved for those people.

It was a good idea for the time, but it was designed for a world that no longer exists.

    On that point we agree.

You are incorrect. The surviving spouse does not receive their deceased spouses benefits on top of their own.

I am aware of that. I didn't say otherwise. A spouse may, smartly I might add, collect the deceased spouses SS into his/her retirement so his/her benefits are larger when they start collecting.

    Where did I say that?

Did you miss the very first sentence where I said "If I was allowed to opt out of SS"????

And you will doubt what he tells you. Do your own research.

Talk to a Certified Financial Planner or a Chartered Financial Consultant and see what they tell you about it.

    What you said:

You made a false assumption about what I know and it turns out that you did not know about the $255.00 death benefit. While a spouse may collect the higher amount of their late spouse, that is only if the higher earner dies first. (Or the only earner) This was fine when Mrs. Cunningham stayed home while her husband worked, but we live in a time where equal pay is expected and this is becoming more rare and will eventually fade out completely.

I in no way said the surviving spouse could collect both benefits at the same time. That's what you implied.

So you get your advice from salesmen? Do you know what the average rate of return is for SS?

You said "The surviving spouse can get the deceased benefits. But of course you don't know this because you want to paint your narrative."

    Were you mistaken?

Neither a CFP nor a CFC is a salesman unless you search for one who is paid via commissions.

I know what my ROR is on my SS.

Why do you insist on conflicting over this? He clarified it and NEVER said a spouse could get both. Stop being a Doofus.

They can get the deceased spouses benefits, but not concurrently with their own.

Oh gosh but don't you know that nothing that happens anywhere else in the world can work here in the US because we're so special?

Can you explain how SS works in Canada, or can you post a good link that explains it? I'd really like to know.

What do you think about getting rid of Peters? Funny side note: Raiders open the season with the Rams who now have Peters and Talib as their starting corners.

    It's 4.8% compounded annually.

Okay, so your big defense of SS combined with your little jab at me turns out to be a negligible amount that applies to a small part of the population that will not exist for much longer.

Did you at least look up the $255.00?

You accused me of stating something I did not. I was just defending myself. I wasn't attacking you. As far as the 225.00 benefit, I'm not sure what that has to do with what I was saying. Give me a link if you like.
