The Seattle City Council proposed a motion to abolish its police department and to instead "create a civilian led department of community safety & violence prevention."
The Founding Fathers made sure that our military was led by civilians for a reason. Can't see the harm in using that same principle for police departments. Hardly the end of the world.
Law enforcement departments are already led by civilians, as law enforcement officers are not military personnel.
Splitting hairs on that one. The police departments have the same hierarchy as the military, just semantics to claim otherwise.
Oh let him have his dreams of the people's paradise. Why don't we abolish the fire departments as well, they too have the same hierarchy as the military. While we're at it why don't we abolish all organizations that have a top to bottom hierarchy. Hell we don't need leadership because we're all the same and will by consensus treat each other with respect and kindness. I honestly hope Seattle succeeds and abolishes law enforcement. It won't be long before it's a smoldering wasteland and they'll have to have an army to replace the police. Beautiful Seattle the south side of Chicago of the West.
These people are complete morons. The depths of their ignorance is truly astounding. If I was a criminal Seattle would be my new headquarters.
You see it happening and I see it happening. Liberal morons are like Sergeant Schultz, "They see nothing". So they go by their feelings.
No large city can survive without commerce. First the small businesses will pack up, after that all businesses that have to deal with the public and when it becomes dangerous to travel within city limits, transportation of goods will cease. You can only blow rainbows out of your ass for so long.
Let them experiment. Let the country see what Leftist policy results in. No good business will want to operate in a crime ridden hell hole. Let Democrats show us all how it’s done.
Isn't "a civilian led department of community safety & violence prevention" the definition of "Police Department"?
Lots of major differences. A policeman can just walk off the job. A GI can get sent to prison. A policeman can disobey an order and only get fired. A GI can get sent to prison. It is a fundamental difference. Yes except their purpose appears to strip the ability of the police to use any kind of force during an arrest. That might sound good to some people, but it fundamentally will not work. A person could refuse to be arrested and walk away.
I agree it's not the end of the world, but it's also unnecessary. Unarmed black men are being killed by police at a rate of 0.26 total killings per state per year in the US. In the UK the only unarmed black man killed last year was the London Bridge Terrorist. We have dealt with these issues along ago.
And on their first neighborhood patrol, their car will get torched and they get beaten up. Inclusion!
Oh great..,police officers are already insufficiently trained and now they want to give authority to even less trained people? What a joke.
The answer is the less trained civilians will not make arrests. Here's what the lefties want -- No one arrested, no one in jail, ignore all crimes, just walk around and flash the peace sign. It will be Heaven.
Let's wait and see how seattle defines it shall we? Some how I reminded of the picture that appeared on Facebook a whole back. Two cops are leaning against a tree shaking their heads. The caption under neath reads, watching the social worker try to de escalate the 6'6" 300 lb lunatic half cover in his own ****, and swinging a 10 ft metal poll like a baseball bat.
