It looks like Virgin Galactic is finally moving into the American Spaceport and we may soon see space tourism become a reality:

    Lots of launches as well.

    Great.
Normal tourism just isn't destroying the planet fast enough.

Somehow I do not think tourism is our biggest worry, and space is not on our planet from what I can tell.

These flights are barely going to skim through space for a few minutes. Their carbon emissions will end up in the atmosphere.

Golly....those 13 launches a year might even produce more than a day of air traffic from LAX.

They might have said the same about the first car.
Branson has said that he wants to bring the price down so that it ends up affordable for the average person.
Air flight used to be only for the rich, now I can fly all over Europe for a weekend city break for less than a weeks wages.

Am I to assume your issue is with technology in general and societal advancement or is this a climate change complaint?

If your complaint concerning space exploration and travel stems from climate concerns I suggest a thought experiment involving how a worst case scenario plays out and what we humans will need to do.

Well, we could spend huge amounts of money and utilise some of the best minds in science for the good of the planet or for frivolous space tourism.
    You decide.

We already have many of the worlds best working on climate change...the problem is that people actually need to listen. Also....the geniuses of climate are not the geniuses of Astronomy or Astrophysics.

I am a space weather physicist. You may recognize me from TV shows I've done for The History Channel and The Weather Channel. I've been featured in Popular Science Magazine, and I am a regular on TWiT TV and TMRO Space News. I want to open your world to a new kind of weather that's becoming important to our daily lives.

Think of all the technology we take for granted, like GPS & traffic apps on mobile phones, drones & UAVs that fly above our heads, high-altitude airline flights, satellite internet, satellite phones, Direct TV, even SiriusXM Radio -- all of these things are directly affected by Space Weather. As we become more reliant on smart, wireless technologies, our dependence upon Space Weather grows. Even today, emergency radio communications used by disaster relief agencies like the Red Cross depend on it. I'm working to make credible Space Weather forecasts as common as the weather forecasts you see on the evening news. I would love for you to join me on this journey!
