    Pollution in India's capital is so bad, spending the day there is like the equivalent of smoking 40 cigarettes.

    It got so bad at one point the government closed down schools for three days and banned all construction work for five days.

    Hospitals in the area periodically deal with large-scale outbreaks of respiratory illnesses.

    This is a Third World country with too many people, and there is a lot of poverty so they can't afford pollution reduction technologies. Keep in mind most of the population can't even afford a car. Around half the families just get by with a little motor scooter.


    You want to talk about "car pooling", sights like these aren't at all uncommon:
