Iran has a terrible history with crowd control. This is clearly a police and civil administrative error of underestimating and improper managing of the crowds. This has happened in the past and they certainly have not learned their lessons.

If the "average Iranian citizen" was supportive of Soleimani, then that reflects poorly on them, and makes it harder to have sympathy for them.

Did you feel badly for the terrorists who died (killed themselves) crashing planes on 9/11?

 

Yeah they've been raised from early to hate infidels, western values and freedom. There value system probably placed little value on the many persons Soleimani has slaughtered. And with their government not allowing freedom of press the impression they would receive of Soleimani would be controlled by the state media. There are many however within Iran who reject the oppressive and evil government and these trampled are not among them. I would prefer they see the light but I'm sure you appreciate how it is difficult for some to feel sympathy for persons who are chanting death to America and promoting world-wide terror.
