What is it exactly that the BLM wants anyways? I don't think I've ever received a clear message from this movement about what it is that they hope to accomplish? To convince Americans that the police (which BTW are an arm of the government) are racists?

Didn't say rioting is the answer, just that rioting isn't helping and neither are normal protests. MLK did, funnily enough, suggest that riots can make things worse but then said riots only take place because conditions in America cause people to feel like that i.e. "a riot is the language of the unheard."

More like police need to be held just as responsible for their actions when something goes wrong, meaning cops shouldn't just go shooting people who did nothing and then receive little to no consequence.

For example, this story that would enrage tons of people:

MLK was AGAINST using any form of violence to make a point, and he managed to do just that.

Yes they should be, but if they go to a trial and the evidence finds them NOT guilty or the evidence finds that they had a good cause for shooting, then that is how the justice system works. Just because you don't like the outcome doesn't mean the system is not working.

Of course if you go attacking a cop, you are going to get hit or shot or something. Don't do that. There is the answer. Don't fight with or attack cops out on patrol because it is a risky job, and they are going to defend themselves if you fight with them. A cop has seconds to react, and they are just people too.

Now in some instances, you might be right, but your own link above states the cop was charged with manslaughter. Right? That is probably appropriate. Should some of these cops even be cops? Probably not, but that is not something that can be easily predetermined all the time, so yes, there are going to be some bad ones. Such is life.

Though his actions were not smart, it does not warrant this new era of "thought police". Thought police are selective. They only go after "thoughts" they find threatening their agenda. If thought police were honest they would go after titles such as "Black Lives Matters" which to many is interpreted..... "Black Lives Matters to the exclusion of others". We actually see evidence of this in the words "Pigs in a blanket fry 'em like bacon" then random police assassinations that have taken place in America.

"Thought police" were given license through the "political correctness movement" that began on college campuses. We know it is leftist oriented because when it's perpetrators are challenged or threatened, they need a "safe place" for shelter. It is a one way ideology.

This dude was a beating waiting to happen. If he was a pothead, he might not have acted in that way, since stoners are usually more tolerant of others.

Most certainly he was. That doesn't mean he didn't understand why violence happens:

Let's not ignore that all his support of peaceful protest and nonviolence still ended with him being shot dead in 1968.

Then perhaps society as a whole in the united states has chosen to ourtight reject whatever message the movement is trying to present.

And that doesn't mean he condoned it either. In fact, I am sure he would not condone these people encouraging others to shoot and kill police officers!

He wasn't shot by the police though, was he?

Nah, I don't agree with that because if the justice system worked that well then every true murderer would either be dead or behind bars, as would any rapist. However, many rapists are still on the street, one has to look at Brock Turner to see how well it "works." The same system that can and has put innocent men just on the basis of a false rape charge.

Definitely shouldn't be on the force if you shoot an unarmed person and answer "I don't know" when asked why you shot him.

He never condoned it but then he was still alive at the time of Black Panthers, who didn't condone shooting officers either UNLESS they posed a direct threat to your life. But then, there were tons of riots that took place and were an immediate result of his assassination.

Because there is no such thing as a "perfect" justice system, but what we have is the best there is. Do you have something better? Mistakes are going to happen because human beings are not perfect and make errors or give in to human weaknesses (greed, etc.). That is the way of life.

Many officers could probably require better training to deal with some situations, but their training at police academy is quite brief from what I gather, like 6 months or something like that.

That was a different Black Panthers. Yes, I saw the documentary. RIOTS are not going to solve problems. Period.

If you want to get a message out, then you need to gain the understanding and the compassion of the people. Rioting, looting, destroying people's businesses or homes, acting out violently is NEVER going to accomplish that goal. If anything, it does the complete opposite! Also, blaming one party while completely IGNORING the problems in your own community and never wanting to address them or making excuses for them is not going to help solve the problems either. It is all very counterproductive.

That's the problem, the "best there is" isn't good enough. The pledge of allegiance says "liberty and justice for all" but nothing could be further from the truth in reality, and contributes a lot to why the US has more people incarcerated than any other country on the planet, many of whom are innocent.

They were partially responsible for getting the 1968 Civil Rights Act signed and helped with fair housing.

And I'm asking you, do you have a better idea? Our justice system is a HECK of a lot better than most other places. Perhaps you should try to get away with HALF the things you can get away with here in America in another country, better yet a socialist one. Go try out some of the other justice systems out there and then come complain about imperfections in ours.

Again, that was a different Black Panthers. I watched the documentary and heard from former members who do not want to be associated at all with the current "New Black Panthers."

Then it would appear that they are simply rioting for the sake of rioting. They apparently enjoy widespread destruction of private and public property, and engaging in unprovoked violence against others who did nothing wrong.

Point out corruption and violence on the one hand, ignore your own violence and crime problems on the other. This is part of the problem with our country today.

Then pray tell what is the proposed solution on the part of yourself for actually addressing the problem, and doing so in a way that will be meaningful?

Those riots were nowhere near as violent as those that are unfolding currently in the united states.

Problems with other justice systems in foreign countries do not negate our own imperfections, especially when people say ours is the best. It is 2017, going on 2018 and there's no reason a world superpower should have this many people locked up in prison, many wrongfully, nor should it be that easy to get a man locked up on a false rape charge or easy to dismiss an actual rapist with minor punishment.

Yes, I know, the original Black Panthers were far more noble and justified than the newer ones.

Hiring more judges who will not let big crimes slide, while also being extra tough on those judges, as well as prosecutors, who do let big crimes slide or let criminals off with minor punishments.

Close to 50 people were killed and over 15,000 were arrested in 1968.

Pray tell where exactly is the funding for the hiring and maintaining of this as of yet undetermined number of new judges going to come from? What bout court rooms? What about prosecutors and defense attorneys to ensure the current coveyor belt/assembly line approach is not maintained? How will such adequately address the supposedly system-wide corruption that is being experienced? What steps will ensure that judges and prosecutors are not prone to bias on the basis of race, economic standing, or any number of other factors that are currently observed? How will your proposal force prosecutors to pursue charges against law enforcement officers, when the sole reason they refrain from doing such is to maintain good working conditions with said officers in the first place?

Even assuming such can be overcome, how exactly do you propose getting guilty verdicts and convictions against law enforcement officers from juries, who overwhelmingly refuse to return such verdicts, even when the evidence of wrongdoing is overwhelming? How do you prevent sitting judges on appeals courts from overruling and overturning the guilty verdicts against law enforcement officers whose actions were clearly wrong? How do you go about removing qualified immunity from the equation, when it was instituted by the united state supreme court in the first place?

Do you have proposals and explanations for such? Can you get down to the proverbial nuts and bolts of what you are suggesting as solutions? Or are you simply presenting what sounds good in theory, but would never pass muster?
