http://www.politico.com/story/2015/12/poll-assault-weapons-ban-216846 I will say, as I've always said, that gun control is a losing issue. Gun rights are an American tradition and that tradition will not be removed simply because of hyped up rhetoric and anecdotes. The gun control lobby is pushing the hardest it's ever pushed and as we can see from this poll and others, not only is it failing to increase support for gun control, it actually seems to be having the opposite effect. Thoughts?
Because there is no sound argument for the necessity and/or constitutionality of banning 'assault weapons'.
Just one more issue the democrats are on the losing side of and it will more than likely show in the upcoming election. The terrorist loving, gun hating liberals are about to be shown the door.
I hope the numbers are dropping because people understand just how arbitrary the distinction between a semi-automatic rifle and a "assault rifle" is when it comes to the law. It's pretty much just "too many scary looking parts and it's illegal". Then there's the fact that long arms are the least used weapons in gun violence, with pistols being number one by far. Unfortunately I don't think facts sway people because I don't believe most people bother to think for themselves. It's likely they're just scared and think they need to defend themselves because of all that flashy (*)(*)(*)(*) they read in the media.
Confirmation: Majority oppose “assault weapons” ban in WaPo/ABC poll as well as the NYT. Americans understand that preparing for self-defense might be a wise idea in an age of small-scale terrorism. Obama is fundamentally unserious when it comes to our security: Nothing proposed by Obama and his allies in the wake of the San Bernardino terror attack would have had any impact on it at all. California already bans “assault weapons,” and makes it very difficult for responsible Californians to use firearms in self-defense outside the home at all and Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik had little trouble massacring them. Obama and those in agreement with him have a lack of connection to reality that has Americans less confident in the government’s ability to prevent terror attacks: http://www.langerresearch.com/wp-content/uploads/1174a3GunsandTerrorism.pdf Obama gets a 35/59 on handling ISIS. Who these 35% that approve of his handling are, is beyond knowing.
You could ban all rifles - bolt action hunting rifles included. You wouldn't even reduce the 8,300 yearly gun homicide rate below 8,000. That's all rifles, not just those which would be subject to an AWB. I've said it before, I'll say it again: if they can get access to a semi-automatic handgun, the rest is completely and utterly pointless. How can anyone disagree? I don't understand it.
