Well, what was Turkey doing in Syria anyway? Nobody invited them there.
I hear that Turkey could declare war on Syria today. This is yet to be seen.

That should really shake things up in NATO.

I don't think Turkey's involvement in Syria is a NATO issue anymore than the US attacking Iraq was a NATO issue.

Turkey will be left to its own devices- as we were in Iraq.

Turkey invaded Syria, Syria resisted. NATO is a defensive alliance so this won't trigger anything.

The way I see it, anyone who messes with Russia has to be idiots. I recall the 'Saker', who I believe is Russian saying that; "Russia never gives idle threats, they consider it a sign of weakness." From what I noticed, the Russians can only be pushed so far - and it looks like Turkey did.

Here's a translation from a Greek news site. It tells a different story:

"...A video showing Turkish soldiers bombarded by Russian Air Force has been posted online and at the same time Turkish sources report that the dead have reached 79.

Sources say that the Russian Air Force also hit the Turkish command center with senior executives!

At the same time, Moscow is urgently sending two Russian frigates to Syria full of cruise missiles.

There have been reports that Greece has been asked to provide medical assistance to Turkish military personnel if needed under the NATO alliance but has not been confirmed..."
Steven De Nun of Israelinewslive said a week ago, that Russia sent to Syria it's newest bombers capable of carrying Hypersonic nuclear bombs - although I can't imagine what they would need nuclear bombs for in the Middle East, other than to frighten others.

Here's something of interest that would make Washington very, very happy:

A member of an expert body advising Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hinted that Ankara is prepared to go to war with Russia after tensions over Syria’s Idlib province escalated over the past 24 hours.

"We have fought Russia 16 times in the past, and we will fight it again"

The official pointed to Russia’s sizeable Muslim population and claimed that the country "will be shattered from inside” should an armed conflict break out between Moscow and Ankara.

A (nominal) NATO member and Russia being at war would be ... interesting. Exciting times.

If Turkey and Russia go to war, that changes the whole thing, but I'm sure cooler heads will prevail.

Turkey will never accept Iran at its border.
Iran are Shia fundementals, while Arduan is Suni muslim brotherhood, which is a kind of fundemental.
It is just like mixing water and oil, does not work.
The fact that this is a 1400 blood fuede is uncomprihancible for westerner, but in the middle eastern Muslim thinking, this is logic.

No one underestimates Turkey's lies and deceptions nor its barbarity. If they did, part of Syria today would be Turkey. Anyway if I were them I wouldn't mess with Russia. The only reason Turkey still exists after having fought 16 wars with Russia, is because there were countries in the West supporting them for some political reason or other.

When Devotoglu gave orders to shoot down the Russian plane a few years back, Putin sent Erdogan a subtle hint by restoring the name Constantinople - Which by the way is really the same name as Istanbul even though the Turks deny it. The Greeks always referred to the city as; Is tin poli, and that became Istanbul in Turkish.

Syria is under Russia's protection, so a war with Syria is a war with Russia. Erdogan is not that stupid, this is why he's trying to get Nato to do the fighting for him.

Turkey called a Nato meeting and everyone backed Turkey against the so called Syrian aggression. No one asked what in the hell is Turkey doing in Syria anyway other than Greece who walked out of the meeting. Besides, why is Washington so concerned about the civilians in Idlib, when they bombed Raqqa indiscriminately and killed 13 thousand Syrians?

Here is reality of who and what Erdogan is now sending to the Greek border, and it bears no resemblance to the western propaganda videos shown on Youtube of Syrian women with baby carriages. None of the refugees questioned are from Idlib in Syria as Erdogan claims. and many are criminals and terrorists from the Central Asian states.

Turkey is in the dog house with NATO (dumping refugees on the EU today didn't help) atm. So long as Russia doesn't look like the aggressor, respects the neutrality of non-Turk NATO forces in the country and makes no moves to annex anything, NATO will sit back and let that Islamist idiot get his. If Russia threatens to upend the strategic situation in eastern Europe, threatens NATO forces or triggers Article 5 by being too aggressive, NATO will step in and it'll be WW3.

Putin knows this and will act accordingly.

No one is allowed to fly into Syria without Russia's permission - unless you want WWIII.

Erdogan bit more of than he can swallow.

Nato will stay out of it, at any cost.
It was all Erdogan's doing, invaded Syria.

By the way, Israel flies into Syria and does not ask for Putin's permission. If Putin think he could stop Israel, with what he has in Syria, he would get himself a broken nose and some.
The junk he has in Syria would be in the scrap yard in no time.

    WWIII, please, get real.

Erdogan is trapped with his adventures in Syria and Libya. How he's handling the situation is being questioned in Ankara, and it's not Erdogan's instability that should be feared. But what action his successor might take if he falls. The only way any leader in Turkey could gather the support of the nationalists would be to give them what Erdogan promised them, but wasn't able to deliver.

Erdogan is a dictator and I would question his popularity. If he screws up in Syria or Libya as it looks right now, it will cost him his head.
If the Syria adventure turns out into a bloody defeat he is finished.
He is already under a lot of pressure at home.

When Turkey shot down the Russian plane, Russia took control of the skies in Syria. Any plane entering Syria's airspace had to notify Russia. Israel almost lost 6 jets who flew into Syria by mistake, and Netanyahu panicked. So he took his Generals and paid Putin a visit to explain Israel's security concerns. This is why they were given Russia's permission to fly in certain areas.

More recently, an Israeli jet hid behind a Russian plane and made it a target for a Syrian missile. Because of that incident, Putin gave Assad the S-300 missile defense systems that he held back as a favor to Israel. From what I noticed, only Israeli drones are now flying into Syria, not jets - but I may be wrong.

    when listening to the reverie
of lands a-far. For what I know,
it's but a show and soon they'll go.

But not before they suffer dear

Israel does what it wants to do. It has the superior weapons. It does not ask for permission.
Putin knows that and he knows that the junk he has in Syria are no match to what Israel has.
Which shadowing or hiding behind a Russian jet shows and Putin knows that.
I consider Putin the smartest of the current leaders, he knows when to stand back, he got one equal, Mutti.
If Israel wants to fly in Syria it just does it and Russia/Putin can do nothing about it and if they wanted they would end up with a broken nose and some.

I'm talking about a Russia/Turkey war. syria would be a battlefield but the country itself is irrelevant to my point.

About 20% of the Israeli population is Russian. I don't think you fully understand Israel and Russia's cooperation and relationship. U.S. citizens account for about 2% of the Israeli population.

To put that in perspective, there are more Russians percentage-wise in Israel than Blacks in the U.S.

if putin wants to keep his embattled reputation here he needs to remain smart. Turkey has the moral high ground and plays the smarter game no doubt. Escalation would be to the detriment of putin considering russia has zero relevance other than vain glory and imperialism.

always thought russia was against imperialism...
