What Trump fails to realize is the importance and respect other powers have for the office of the American Presidency. Kim has more respect for the office than Trump has. By impulsively agreeing to talk to Kim without consulting a soul besides the South Korean envoy, Trump has cheapened the office. You are right. We should talk to NK, but not the President. Not until our goals for the Korean Peninsula have been achieved, and our President meets with the NK dictator in triumph. Not before. "I would be shocked if anything really changed." You are wrong. As things stand now, meeting in May without conditions, by meeting with the leader of the free world Kim achieves a great diplomatic victory and his status is sharply elevated. For this, he gives up nothing. He has not even answered Trump's invitation. All the media attention for the talks is coming from Trump and the White House. Nothing from North Korea. It is almost as if Trump is groveling to speak to Kim. That makes me sick.
