Theft and organized retail crime that put safety and local business performance at risk is prompting Target to shutter a handful of stores.

Target identified the following locations as being impacted by the planned closures:

    • 517 E 117th St. in New York City, New York
    • 4535 University Way NE in Seattle, Washington
    • 448 NW Market St., Ste. 100, in Seattle, Washington
    • 1690 Folsom St. in San Francisco, California
    • 2650 Broadway in Oakland, California
    • 4301 Century Blvd. in Pittsburg, California
    • 939 SW Morrison St. in Portland, Oregon
    • 3031 SE Powell Blvd. in Portland, Oregon
    • 4030 NE Halsey St. in Portland, Oregon
    end snip

    NYNY mayor Adams- Democrat
    Pitt mayor Gainey - Democrat
    SF mayor Breed - Democrat
    Oakland mayor Thao- Democrat
    Seattle mayor Harrell - Democrat
    Portland mayor Wheeler- Democrat

It makes one scratch their head. Target supports Democrat policies yet those same Democrat policies hurt their business.

Is it just coincidence that the closures are in Democrat run cities?

These closures are a significant indication that the crime problem is real. Stores can no longer cope with the financial losses from theft, and safety for their employees is a major concern.

Beyond that there is the concern for the quality of life for residents of the effected neighborhoods. People don’t have less expensive food stores available. Drug stores are no longer convenient for the sick and elderly.

These criminals ruin neighborhoods and make life worse for everyone around them. They are not romantic little “Robin Hoods” who are getting back at “the man.” They are selfish little thugs who are out for themselves. They need to be prosecuted and incarcerated if convicted. Repeat offenders need to be jailed before trial.

The left needs to wake up. They say they care about the less fortunate. They need to show that they do.

Suburbia? Care to elaborate on how it’s Republicans fault that leftists are robbing and stealing and chasing away business in their own communities? Even in poor white communities with Walmarts can you show videos of gangs robbing the stores? Don’t bother. They might be poor but they at least understand the value Walmart provides. Seems inner city Leftists are too stupid to get that they’re eating their own tails.

Well you know what they say: when life gives you an empty business….turn it into a migrant and homeless shelter…

The society you’re building is going great libs! Say, how’re those school test scores lately? Lol.

Yes. Most of the cities where Target is closing their stores aren't that big...comparable to cities with multiple Target locations including Tulsa, OKC, Dallas, Ft. Worth, etc. The deciding factor of closures seems to correspond with the level of "progressiveness" involved in the criminal justice system and lawlessness allowed within those communities.

Amazon.com made it hard to be a retail store, crime just adds to it

Ny City has 14 Target stores so losing one means they have 12 or 13 more than most Republicans cities.

Seattle has 22 stores so losing 2 means they have 19 or 20 more than most Republican cities

San Fran has 32 stores, losing one so that’s 30 or 31 more than Republican cities

While I do agree that we need to be harder penalties for theft, especially when it’s organized or a multiple offender but the premise of this entire thread is a laughable right wing attempt to ignore just how large these areas are compared to their flyover state that generates a few percentage points towards our GDP.

Democratic governors deal with issues Republican governors could not even begin to comprehend

First, it's Democrat governors. The term democratic is for a process

all 9 stores reside in cities run by a Democrat mayor and the closures are cited due to theft

    those are the facts.

    Incorrect as typical
    It is the Democratic Party
    https://www.factcheck.org/2007/12/the-democratic-or-democrat-party/

9 Targets out of over 100 Targets in those areas closed. Correct

The crime is too much, but the party of the elected official won't change it. Crime is everywhere, even in rural areas, no place is immune to it, and it occurs in all business.

I have no issue with getting tougher on these thefts, but I assure you, these types of thefts are gang related, most likely anyways. They will think up other ways to steal, and political party won't change that.

Why now? Those stores were once turning a profit, why would Target close them unless they weren't?

My sister told me today that she was in a local small shop, Coop, a couple of days ago. While she was paying for her goods a woman walks in and picks up a bottle of alcohol. Walks towards the exit. Two members of staff intercept her at the exit, and one says "I presume you're going to walk out with that without paying?". The woman says "yep" and casually walks out. While talking to the shop assistants my sister was told that this was the second time today that the women had walked off with a bottle of alcohol without paying and was a regular event. This woman sells the bottles at the end of the road. Nothing can be done about it.

My city votes Right. Shoplifting is nothing to do with whether cities are right or left wing. These scum have no interest in politics. Major shakeup is required with petty criminals.

Yah, same here in Oklahoma. Deadbeats consistently walking in and out stealing without a care in the World. Oklahoma voted to make stealing less of a crime not worthy of being arrested for. Nationally we need to come down on this theft...even the small stuff.

However I think that for these more progressive areas....it might be easier for more organized crime to take hold.

Democratic governors create issues that Republican governors could not even begin to find a way to fix.

You really think these stores are just closing by accident, hehehe. When Democrats make stealing essentially LEGAL, because no one gets punished what did they think was going to happen? RESTRAINT?? Hahahaha.

They all get what they deserve. Food desert. Product desert. Just Dems being Dems rewarding the dregs of humanity over and over again.

Probably only a few. Progressive Liberals have been pouring out of Democrat states and moving to all the big cities in Republican states, looking for more affordable housing and cities that have "quaint" downtowns that aren't trashed and overrun with homeless.

Gainesville, Georgia and Provo, Utah both have Target stores. The current one in Gainesville is pretty small but right now they're in the process of building a big new store.

You are correct — Republican politicians have proven time and time again they cannot govern so no matter how small the issue it would go unfixed.
