It's a sign of rebellion, or at least it used to be. Now you see a 60 year old grandmother sporting ink. It's no longer rebellious, it's passe'.

Well, that all depends on if I am a judgemental prick or not, doesn't it? Does one only go off of looks or does one look at the whole picture? Me? I am a big picture kind of a guy.

On a side note, while tattoos are a form of expression and should be treated with the same freedoms as other forms of expression, one also has to take personal responsibility for what and where they get tattoos. There are always going to be judgemental pricks in society and if you get your face tattooed as in the example above, some people like CTRL are going to hate you for it without getting to know you. Is it fair? No. But it is a distinct possibility you must consider when making a decision on what tattoo and where.

It's not necessarily a sign of rebellion...

I have 3 tattoos, two of them are my kids names, and one is my nickname (we've discussed this before), and I didn't get a tat til I was 24...

I think tattoos are a white thing. The White man came across the Black man with all his bling and tried to compete in some way as bling just doesn't work on whites, thus the tattoo was invented.

Tattoos existed before bling. Black men also get tattoos.

    Another fail.

So... in this case... it is not expressing ones self with artistic expression... it is extreme.

Again... you did not address my actual argument. Scientists, surgeons, intellectual giants... vs pretty much anyone inside the penal system.

Albert Einstein vs Mike Tyson is definitely my argument.

You were a unique individual before you got a tat. You were desperate for something else. This is not speculation.

BTW I have Salvador Dali's opposing elephants from my sholders to my ass. I was young once. It's awesome work... it was a stupid decision.
My wife has 4 tats... including an ill conceived tramp stamp.

    We are in agreement.

    Please continue.

If he was then I stand corrected.

However given the low caliber of arguments in the thread, that one wouldn't surprise me.

    Nope.

Just Google "scientists with tattoos" and educate yourself.

He didn't say he hated her, he said he wouldn't hire her.

We are judged by our appearance daily.
That is the reality of life.

People assess us by how we appear.

Visible tattoos are not always going to be accepted as a positive.

Show up to a job interview in a t-shirt, shorts and unshaven.
    You'll be judged for it.

Wow. Really? Everyone in the world with a tattoo is a degenerate and/or a porn star simply because YOU can't think of a single person with a tattoo who has contributed to society? Wow! Such power you hold! Amazing! Oh wait. Your claims are pure bull(*)(*)(*)(*). Sorry. Got carried away.

Maybe you should expand your horizons and get rid of the biased notion that the only people who get tattoos are degenerates and porn stars. Maybe you should try this book of people involved in the scientific community who have tattoos.

Depends on how you define bling.

You are now using a fallacy by moving the goal posts.

Which is why critical thinking should be required in high school and before voting.

    Look.
To a lot of people, getting ink embedded under your skin with a needle leaving, for all intents and purposes, a permanent mark on the body....
    is dumb.

What are we bigots now? Because we think it's dumb?

Why do the tattooed get so offended by it?

You want to be loved or something? Have the whole World admire ink under your skin...

Some people just don't like it.
Doesn't mean we think you're dumb, just that at one point in your life you made a bad decision...to us at least.

    Deal.

There is a difference between that and a silly high horse psychoanalysis perpetrated by those with so little in life they must judge entire classes of people.

    He's not with me.

    Google: Nobel prize tattooed

    Educate yourself.

This is really becoming a ridiculous argument. Lets say, despite your really awesome enthusiasm towards your tattoos, that you are not facing the reality of the circumstance. MOST, to the tune of 90%... which is giving you heaps of %... probably 90% more than is realistic, simply because I cannot source it... intellectual giants, in general, do NOT have tattoos. MOST, to the same percent... with the same conservative estimate... prison inmates do.

It makes you feel tough. I get it.

There is nothing wrong with that. Societies perception of you does not make you the subject of that perception. I totally get it.

There is a reason this is a sore point. There is a reason you defend it. I get it.

Lemme splain... no... there is no time... lemme sum up...

You are expressing yourself... for society to interpret.
Society has... and has determined you feel the need to express yourself in what is traditionally an anti-social way.

    We get it.

Really People? it is either expression, or it warrants hiding.

You display art. If you are ashamed of it... it is neither art, nor expression.

Excellent point and I completely agree.

You are part of a CLASS of people?

WE are a CLASS of people?

    Funny that.
