I mean this sincerely, you re-elected someone we can at least respect and work with. You pretty much re-elected a moderate Republican. Practically, I think the office would have moderated Romney, but he seemed ignorant enough of geopolitics and the long game to cause him plenty of problems. Even W reached a very small degree of something approaching competence on some foreign policy issues at the end of his second term. I think it would have taken Romney a long time though and the extremism being spewed from the right gave us plenty of cause for concern. So, here's what I'm gonna do. I'm a European living and working in China. Anybody starts spewing the usual American imperialism nonsense again, I'll tell them why they're wrong if I have time and tell them they're being complete idiots if I don't. I will defend your actions in front of ayone that doubts them as I still believe the US is the most benign superpower we may ever witness. If it comes to war somewhere after exhausting all possibilities, I don't want my government (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)footing around; we owe the US our safety and the world's stability, so I'll vote for someone who takes our Nato commitments seriously. Just do me a favor; despite the huge progress on social equality since the '50's and '60's, you are not the nation of engineers you once were. You are joking aren't you. If there is one thing we now know for sure about Obama is that he cannot work with people. Give me an example of his working with people? From day one he told the Republicans that HE won the election not them so it was his road or no road. His own commission on the deficit he gave the middle finger. His own budgets were rejected unanimously by his own party. His jobs council? He hasn't met with them all year. Even his health care plan he threw in the lap of Harry Reid and walked away from it. ROFL where do you get this stuff we elected a radical leftest. I think you drank the MSM koolaid, Romney has proven himself capable of foreign affairs throughout his career and has been successful in dealing with foriegn countries and groups where Obama has been an abject failure and I see no reason to think that will change. What American imperialism? With a radical leftest like Obama in office that is unlikely to happen. Our greatest innovations come from the private sector and private initiative. He is stifling and punishing that with his policies and pledges not only to continue those efforts but to increase them.

In the end though, whoever occupies the Whitehouse doesn't actually matter all that much, the economy will recover regardless. A fair number of you probably don't care what the rest of the world thinks of the US either, but like it or not, it does matter.
Well that's interesting. Sorry about the flack from other posters. A lot of Americans are very worried about losing some of their rights related to firearms, free speech and relgious expression, losing much wealth, expect health care to get much worse for them, and great fear for the world our children will grow into as effort put towards hard work and innovation is punished and basement dwelling and promiscuity are increasingly subsidized. Since they're probably right about all that calming down isn't going to be easy. But it's nice to see something like this. There is an idea here that international goodwill, and $1, will get you a cup of coffee. Meaning that it doesn't matter if other nations like us or not, they will react the same, so we need to focus on economic and military strength. But in your post is at least a glimmer that Obama's foreign policy isn't stupid (which a lot of moderates really want to be true and hope it pans out.)
