We all owe our thanks to Margaret A Wilcox who invented the car heater in 1893!
(Margaret also invented a combined clothes and dishwasher)

The fire escape was invented by Anna Connelly in 1887

The life saving Life Raft was invented by Maria Beasely in 1882. (Maria also invented a machine that makes barrels)

Solar heating for residential housing was invented by Dr Maria Telkes in 1947.
Dr. Telkes was a Psychiatrist in addition to being a Solar-Power Pioneer

The medical syringe which could be operated with only one hand was invented by a woman by the name of Letitia Geer in 1899

The electric refrigerator was invented by Florence Parpart in 1914
( Florence also invented an improved street cleaning machine in addition to the refrigerator)

Hedy Lamarr, a world famous film star, invented a secret communications system during World War II for radio-controlling torpedoes.
This Technology also paved the way for everything from Wi-If to GPS

Margaret Knight invented a machine that makes square bottomed paper bags in 1871. She almost didn’t get credit when Charles Anan
Tried to steal her work claiming that it wasn’t possible for a woman to create this brilliant invention. (Margaret also invented a safety
Device for cotton mills when she was 12… that invention is still being used today)

There was more I did not show you. So Ladies, get out and invent. Your sisters invented. So now you know, you too can invent.

Thank you Women inventors followed by a partial showing of inventions is damning women? Are you unhappy that I did leave out several inventions in the interest of allowing that others might want to show us inventions as well, done by women?

The ice cream maker was invented by a woman named Nancy Johnson in 1843. Her patented design is still used today!

    The Computer Algorithm
    [IMG]

Ada Lovelace is essentially the first computer programer due to her work with Charles Babbage at the University of London in 1842.
In fact her notes was an essential key to helping Alan Turing’s work on the first modern computers in the 1940s.

    Telecommunications Technology
    [IMG]

Some of the Telecommunication Technology developed by Dr Shirley Jackson include portable fax, touch tone telephone,
Solar cells, fibre optic cables, and the technology behind caller ID and call waiting.
    11. The Dishwasher

The Dishwasher was invented by Josephine Cochrane in 1887. Before her time, she even marketed her machine to hotel owners
And even opened her own factory without the help of a man!

    Closed-Circuit Television Security (CCTV)

Marie Van Brittan Brown invented CCTV because of the slow response of police officers in 1969 to help people ensure their own security.

As an equalitarian, (and civil rights activist) I believe capability depends on the individual regardless of gender and these impressive inventions created by women are powerful proof of this axiom.

Moreover, these inventions were created in a time before affirmative action. Therefore, sexist (and racist) hate laws like affirmative action are not necessary for achievement.

Can you imagine the discoveries in science and medicine if women had equal access to education?

I can imagine a solar powered hair dryer/drone that could zip a women to the grocery store, dry her hair while shopping and zip her back home before her significant other had to witness any of it.

For hundreds of years the best universities and science schools were males, white male affirmative action, NYC had science high schools, girls were denied access,

    Source.

Yes, if that is true, then it is unfair as it's unfair today that women are preferred over men.

As an equalitarian, I believe opportunities should be based on merit regardless of gender and race.

How do you suggest leveling the playing field ? For 200 years white males had special privileges and a built in network that still exists

What evidence exists that white males are 'privileged' and there is a 'built in network that still exists [favoring white males]'

White male is the only race and gender combination with systematic institutionalized discrimination against them today.

How is the only race and gender combination systematically discriminated against today the privileged race and gender combination?

Really? You mean white men are denied admission to the best networking colleges?men are paid less than women for comparable work? How are they victims? Blacks and women were real victims ....white men didn't have to compete with more than 55% of the population.
Check out the power structure in this country and tell me about the poor white male victims. Sounds like you have victim envy

Let's look at Harvard, Yale Princeton, for generations built the greatest network and foundations and banned women and they required a photo to see what color you were. Do you believe segregated black schools were equivalent to white schools? Do you really need proof to know that women were paid less than men? Why don't you research it?

What evidence do you have that TODAY women and minorities are discriminated against???

Every race and gender was discriminated against in the past. For example at one time white men without property were not allowed to vote, were forced to fight in wars whether they believed in the war or not et cetera

Women are still paid less than men though it's catching up.
You Cannot ignore the past. It is like a race where people have to run in their lane. The people on the outside are given a Headstart because they are at a disadvantage. Women and minorities have been victims of discrimination and also need a bit of a Headstart

The gap is definitely closing, thanks to women of my generation and after who fought and put up with resistance from men who didn't want to share the pie . There is still sexism and racism, even though white guys think that's only in the past.

You: ""What evidence do you have that TODAY women and minorities are discriminated against???""

Well , for starters, this thread and all the other "women are different" threads. They prove that sexism is alive and well and is used against women.

Then get back on topic and find another woman who overcame sexism and discrimination and invented something DESPITE those odds .

At one time women had to use men's names so they could get a patent....it's to their credit that they overcame such an IGNORANT attitude and still kept inventing and improving the world with something besides babies...
