Thanksgiving, another uniquely American :flagus: :salute: Holiday.

Giving "thanks" to the almighty whether
he be God, The Great Spirit or To Whom It May Concern.

FDR moved it back on week to avoid two turkey dinners so close to each other.

So, what think you of Thanksgiving.
    Especially ferighners!
What did ferighners ever give the world? Bastille Day? Guy Fawkes Day? :roflol:
    Oh I know, I know, May Day 1 !

Blissful Thanksgiving one and all, :flagus:
    And them that deserve it.

    And He Did too!

Across an immense, unguarded, ethereal border, Canadians, cool and unsympathetic,
regard our America with envious eyes and slowly and surely draw their plans against us.

Americans are amazing in their pomposity and ignorance of history.

Don't misunderstand. I love Thanksgiving. It is absolutely my favorite holiday. But it is not "uniquely American"

Fall harvest feasts have been around for as long as there have been fall harvests

Correct. Every civilization throughout history has had this in one form or another.

Why do you have to sh-t over anything American?

Does Greece have a Thanksgiving holiday? What about Zimbabwe? Ireland? Peru?

In the early 1860's (when Thanksgiving was made a legal holiday after 240+ years as an unofficial holiday) what other countries had a legal holiday to give thanks?

Actually most of them do. Korea, Japan, China, Canada, most countries in western Europe. And then there are unofficial holidays for it in almost every other country and has had them since before America was a country of its own. Just like Christmas easter ect adnasume.

Well, the Japanese have a day where they give thanks to "labor". And Germans have a time to give thanks for the harvest. But neither of them involve giving thanks to God and a large meal.

Basically, Thanksgiving is entirely American and the only other country to have a similar day is Canada, which followed our lead.

Gan'en Jie came to China from the U.S.; it's the Chinese interpretation of our Thanksgiving.

It doesn't involve thanks to God or a large meal. I don't think it's a legal holiday where government and businesses are closed. They interpret it simply as a day to give thanks to family, friends, and co-workers.

You can interpret it anyway you want. But the fact remains that we are not the on one's that celebrate it nor were we the first ones to celebrate it. Norse pagans celebrated it germanic pagans celebrated it. Ect. Just like easter is not solely a Christian holiday. Easter was a pagan fertility goddess who's earthy form was thought to be a rabbit.

Everything American is bad don't ya know..

I'm surprised thanksgiving isn't a symbol of white supremacy akin to white milk..

Hardly. You can be a patriot and admit that we did not invent things like thanksgiving. And bring attention to it is not necessarily being anti American.

How about just "Thanksgiving" for now.
Maybe Halloween and Santa Claus too.
And feighners love them and try adopt them as theirs
in the :flagus: form. Not some ancient tangent relation.
St. Nicholas and Black Peter just don't cut it today. Black Peter has been made an outcast being so NOT P.C.
    Live with it.

Although Russkies do have Father Frost and Snow Maiden.

Rightly or wrongly it is viewed as an American holiday here in Australia. Halloween used to be that way but has become rather big here in recent years.

We tend to pick up the best and leave the rest alone.

Thanksgiving seems like a good idea, we just have summer down here at this time of year, so we like to be out and about instead of inside with family.

I'm thankful that here in America we have the freedom and luxury to sit on a forum and argue about Thanksgiving.

I totally misread your upload a few hours ago.
So no Thanksgiving in O.Z.Land. A day to enjoy turkey instead of mutton.
    Well, what can you expect.

    :)

    It's Thanksgiving in :flagus:
And we celebrate it as we celebrate all holidays.
By consuming an obscenely large meal.

To each their own, we have a day where you get a smashed as is humanly possible, that's not for everyone either.

No other country celebrates Thanksgiving like we do, except for Canada which copied us. Other countries don't have a legal holiday to thank God for their blessings (primarily a good harvest) combined with a large meal.

Having an unofficial holiday to thank friends and co-workers isn't remotely close; there's no God or food involved.

Please libs, stop trying to discredit American traditions.

    Keep moving the goalposts tex.

Not a liberal. And like I said. You can be a patriot while at the same time bringing to light that we did not invent everything.

Hell. The germanic pagans celebrated the late fall harvest about the same week in much the same manner as we do here in America now. They just thanked different gods.
