Duvel is The best brew I ever had.I remember it was $ 9.99 for a 4 pack back in the mid-90's.I bought a 4-pack about 3 years ago.I don't recall the price.$ 10 bucks for a 4-pack {11 oz. bottles} was pretty expensive back then.About the most expensive short of the Finest Trappist brews. You have to be carefull when pouring Duvel because it has a whopping creamy head. You gotta pour real slow while tilting a rounded glass.It is slightly sweet and floral. It is unfiltered and has sediment on the bottom that is loaded with stuff like Brewer's yeast which is healthy.The bottom of the bottle will throw off a whitish haze from that sediment.

It's 32% alcohol content, so it's basically malt liquor. Unless you drink whiskey straight from the bottle you wouldn't even be able to drink it without mixing it with something, but what on earth would you mix beer with anyway?
I don't typically mess with whiskey and such, but I'll take a shot or swig on occasion. I'm not fond of the way any hard stuff taste, or the fire it creates, but I expect it from hard alcohol. I most definitely do not want my beer to taste like wine or whiskey! It seems like 9% is my threshold when it comes to ABV, and how it affects the taste of a beer. Though, I've had a few imperial stouts that were tolerable.
In graduate schoo, 1965 we drank Hamns long neck. $3.85 a case. We could not decide if we drank it because it was good or because it was cheap. We settled on the primis that we drank it because it was good and cheap.
It depends on the beer. I have a DFH Punkin' Ale in my fridge that has an off-putting alcohol flavor and it's only a 7% beer.
That sounds fine by me. The stuff we were talking about earlier is sitting at 35%. I'll pass... okay I'll take a swig, then I'll pass.
There is a new micro brewery going up within walking distance from home. Not sure if this is a good thing or not. That will make about 5 within a mile from home.
I'll pass on any beer with an alcohol flavor that overpowers everything else. I don't drink beer to taste the alcohol.
I cannot stand really strong beer.Not becuase of the alc. but because it almost makes me puke.Like EKU 28.It just isn't meant for drinking. This from a guy who has spent enough money on Cognac to buy a small jet. I bet I've purchased and drank around 2ooo bottles {fifths} of the stuff the last 30 some years.I used to be able to drink Cognac straight in a snifter.Still can but it's not good for the tummy.So I drink with large Ice cubes. I have moved up to XO cognac the last 2 years.Plus regular VS {around $30}. I bought a 4 pack of Duvel today and it was $15.99 or 6 bucks more than the first 4-pack I bought in the mid 90's.The expire date was in 2015. I also bought a 6 pack of Schlitz which isn't widely available.Schlitz is pretty good the new 1960's recipe. I like to have a beer in glass before retiring on the nights I imbibe my limit. I always make sure to drink water in small amounts whenever I drink.That's the key.
Guiness is not a strong beer at all.In fact the Guiness that's imported here is less alc. than an average Bud.Guiness is great for beer hangovers.The only beer I would recommend the morning after for a Beer Hangover. Average beer novice think because of the dark complexion Guiness is really strong. My best Homebrew ever was an Imperial Stout.I think I lucked out.Used one of the newer available snap yeast packs.Plus really good fresh Hops { one for brewing,and one for finishing }.I wrote down somewhere in my Homebrew file what Hops. the Beer sat in my basement for over a year because I kinda forgot about.I think I had about 5-6 bottles left.The advantage of Homebrewing is that Bottle-Conditioning helps to make a beer a little more fizzy and deep.But there's a limit to how long.I still have about 4 bottles left of homebrew from over 12 years ago that I don't even want to touch. I was waiting for them to explode and they never did. I tell ya what.I'm a little scared to pop them open because there's dusty but I think I might. Actually I want to use my pump Pellet rifle and shot them to see what happens. I also have a bottle of Vintage Fuller's Vintage Ale { 1998 } best by 2001.I just went downstairs and checked.It's got cob webs on.No way am I drinkin' that.
I would highly recommend Guinness Extra Stout or original.But not their Draught. It's a very quality beer but Not some all-fire only man beer.I would say a nicely poured Guinness Stout { a shot glass worth } would be fitting for a troublesome toddler at bedtime.I'm gonna try a glass of Duvel in about 30 minutes. It's been maybe 3 years.I gotta know stuff before I furgit.
OK ... Poured the Duvel and I don't like the way the bubbles foamed. I didn't use a Beer glass but my Cognac glass which isn't a cognac glass. It foamed but not like any Duvel I ever poured before.I distinctly remember Duvel was very troublesome with it's huge foamy head.Like many of my Homebrews. I just bet they cut back on whatever made it great years ago.I now switched to my favorite beer glass that was handed down to me from my grandparents.It's just a regular pilsner glass { but thick } with a custom hand painted Fish lure . The head isn't much different.The bubbles aren't as close-knit or small as I remember. Plus the beer tastes kinda similar to many an american pilsner that is very hand-crafted. I don't believe the 8.5% alc.It's still a delicious beer but for the price one should expect more.I am going to quickly compare it to the Schlitz that I bought today. The Schlitz is slightly copper where the Duvel is very canary yellow. The head was weak and dissipated.The bottle did have NOV 2012 on it. Maybe I poured too cold.But that's the problem with beer.You just don't know who handled it.The last 6-pack of Schlitz I got had more head.The beer seems kinda flat.But that is exactly what Corona tastes like.I just added a small amount of Schlitz to the now empty Duvel which has some sediment and poured into glass. It instantly helped and created a cloudy appearance. However I am a red Wine and Cognac guy and don't think I can be swayed by beer talk.Yes,on a hot day Beer is a quencher where red wine would seem almost stupid. But having been there and done that I can say with some degree of assurance that good red wine is far more noble than any Good or even great beer.I could never live with a daily great beer like Duvel.Short of bein Imprisoned.Since I have me druther's I prefer the best possible Red Wine I can afford and of course my true love ... COGNAC
Carlsberg is always good also, although some of my family members feel it is a bit too strong/pungent.
Any Trappiste... I'll drink lesser beers like Franziskanner, or maybe on a stretch go for something like Rogue or other craft beers...
guiness stout is gross, couldn't even nurse that, its so bad. its imported from somewhere, but its nasty.
Yeah, that's an acquired taste to be sure, very thick, very dark... I don't like that stuff much at all...
Wow... I'm not even sure what to say. In my opinion if you don't enjoy a high quality stout like Guinness you don't know beer. Doesn't have a rich flavor? Wow...just wow, you couldn't be more wrong.
