Once again it is hope not answers. It may be true that nobody wants a hard border but knowingly or unknowingly that is what people voted for.
The whole of the UK to 'leave' the whole of the EU.
You ask what option is there, well the obvious answer is a customs union and total alignment on both sides of the border, remain you might call it, yet the vote was to leave.
Until there is an answer all other bets are off.

I think this is the issue. Nobody is “well” informed because nothing has been discussed or agreed. Until negotiations start then nobody apart from those at the table have an idea of the direction of travel.

The journey has started, no turning back so they will work it out along the way.

My hope long term is for a United Ireland. I do think it will happen, and long overdue IMO.

My hope is that the present peace process does not collapse.
I lived through the 'modern' troubles which cost 4000 lives, a casual attitude to the issue hoping something will turn up is not reassuring.
Those who promoted and voted for brexit are the ones who have to supply the solution, or accept responsibility for the consequences.

I really hope that does not occur either. That would be a horrible outcome.

With the political outcome in Dec in NI it seems to be a bit more likely of reunification anyways.

Especially with the deal Johnson made with the EU, custom border in the Sea. NI stays in the custom union, adheres to EU law, but is still part of the UK.
Only that will make a deal with the EU possible and a deal with the US. Neither the US congress nor the EU would except any deal, which endangers good Friday. It puts the UK in a tough position.

If after all the dust settles Ireland unites and perhaps Scotland leaves the UK it will be interesting to see how BREXIT is viewed by history. Perhaps as a huge mistake or a catalyst for needed changed.

    What have you been smoking?

For this to happen, Scotland would need to have something it doesn't have, called money.

Two problems with your wacky idea is that Scotland can't afford to leave the UK, and Scotland can't afford to join the EU; I repeat, nobody in London is worried about Scotland going anywhere because we're not (even worrying about it because we know how Scotland's finances are since they now have an 8% deficit to rest of the UK and their ****ing stupid public expenditure like money is going out of fashion despite them already owing the rest of the UK money); Take it from someone in London compared to someone in North America or Australia when it comes to Scotland, since we (in London) happen to know a thing or two about Scotland's finances over people speculating from outside thinking one thing and not knowing how much money Scotland actually doesn't have; as for Ireland, **** Ireland, a simple Gobshite (it's a real word, look it up) Gobshite people and one of the (many) poorer countries in the EU too dependent on the EU to ever have my respect. In other words, whenever a leader in Ireland speaks, it's a recorded voice from Brussels speaking for them.

The Eurozone's in a recession and that EU/Turkey Deal is turning around and biting the EU on the A' because it's 2020 and that 2016 deal was due to expire in 2020 anyway.

Brexit is great since the EU is now the sick man of the world; politically and economically unstable.

Yes that will be interesting. I think NI will leave the UK and join Ireland, not tomorrow. But the election showed a huge change.
Scotland is more difficult, it needs England's permission to hold a new referendum. Will it get it ?
For the EU it is a difficult question, what about Catalonia, same problem as in the UK, the legality is in the hands of the Federal Government.
I only believe that Scotland could join the EU, split, if the UK grants it that right and than it would take years to smooth the waves and make it look normal, like Macedonia or so. Spain would never allow Scotland to join the EU instantly, because of its own internal problems.
Scotland will not happen, NI yes.
The Scots, Wales will have just to make the best of the English rule, nothing new.

Because you're an idiot who still believes in the EU despite Turkey, depsite Brexit, despite everything, you're a moron who believes Ireland should be united.
Have a hard border on the island of Ireland I say, UK/EU and this should serve Ireland right for being a poor country taking orders and money from the EU because it has money or sovereignty of its own. (Live within your means Ireland, you're an EU country with no money, you haven't got any money and you're not even in control of Republic of Ireland because you're an loud box for the EU, (****ing idiots).

You also root for the break up of the UK, so I going to treat this as anti UK racist nonsense.

I only hope the EU doesn't stop asking UK to follow the EU rule book in the future so the UK can walkaway early in June; if France thought December 2020 was bad, let's see how they like the idea of if there's no progress by June (2020) then it's time to call it day/walk away and prepare for WTO in June, I only hope the EU doesn't stop trying to treat the UK like it's in the EU so the UK can walk away in June.

Just getting rid of the English Rule, like England wants to get away from the EU.
    Ain't that something.
And they can not, because of English law. London says no, than it is no.
At least concerning the EU, you can leave anytime, just invoke article 50.

Ireland should be united, 800+ years of struggles have earned it. The people of NI made a statement in Dec.

It' odd that your concerned with the breakup of the UK but are OK with Ireland being divided as it is.

I would say English imperialism has to end, has to end now. Has lasted far to long. Ireland has to be united, Gibraltar returned to Spain. Scotland and Wales given the opportunity to decide for themselves, if they want to stay under English rule, or become a part of Europe, or what else, maybe create their own union.

    How about that ?

    Yeah, no.

800 years of struggles my foot.

I know you're not even in the UK otherwise you wouldn't say stupid **** like Scotland's going to break away; I doubt you're even in this part of the world; you unsympathetic anti British moron.

Stop fooling yourself; Scotland and Ireland are both poor, only one's in the EU and one's in the UK; if they had any money; then they can talk, but they're poor.
If it wasn't for the UK being so close to Ireland and the UK bailing out Ireland in 2008, Ireland would look like Greece or Portugal, so, "you're welcome Ireland."

    ****ing backwards ingrates.

    Don't tell me, tell Scotland.

It's more than a bit hypocritical to say the UK had the right to leave the EU but NI or Scotland do not have the right to leave the UK.

I'm glad the UK left the EU, it what the people wanted.

If the people in NI want to reunite with Ireland then I'm for that. I'm personally hoping it happens.

    Scotland should choose as well.

Yes I think so to. I am was born in a country divided. Not a good thing. The folks in the Republic of Ireland fought hard to become a free State.
Lots of pride in that. Sadly the folks in NI were left out in that pride.
    Time to correct it.

    Your an angry one.

I'm not anti British at all. I've no problem stating who I dislike on these forums (and I have the moderator warnings to prove it!) , the British are not on that list.

But it is folks like you that make people anti British. Your attitude is crap.

Ireland will be just fine without the British. The people of NI will decide rather they want to leave or not. Why would you deny them that choice?

The Irish have endured so much, they deserve a united island. It will come peacefully after all that bloodshed. Lost of horrific acts on both sides of that conflict, it will be nice to see it end peacefully.

The PM already told Scotland this.
Scotland chose in UK 2014, and they're not doing a good job running their country when they distract themselves from running Scotland to try and convince anyone otherwise; Scotland's problems would be solved if they had money, but they don't; they have an 8% deficit to the rest of the UK meaning they owe too much money to afford to leave the UK and are too poor to qualify for EU membership since the maximum amount of debt a country can have is 3% which just puts into perspective how stupid and impossible it is for Scotland to joing the EU. If Scotland think the Tories austerity is bad; it'll be noting if the SNP make Scotland independent since Scotland's problem is they have no money.
    Ireland and NI can do what they want, and I honestly couldn't care, but as things stand, NI's UK and the ONLY thing that means to me is that we still have that band Thin Lizzy and we built Deloreans;
    I'm from London, the border at Charring Cross Road between Camden and Westminster is always going to matter more to me anyway; but Ireland; still a small poor EU country that when their leader speaks just repeats whatever their EU masters want them to say; I mean, they don't even have their own currency anymore, but then, neither do Germany;

The EU is fast turning into the sick man of the world and Brexit means UK doesn't have to fund the EU; I see 4 countries holding money in the EU and 22 countries all wanting 4 countries to spend more and the EU struggling the plug the void left by UK's departure; that's what I see; IDK about anyone else.

I very much like your rather thought full and decent comments.
I am German and have many friends in the UK..
The UK is at a crossroad with Brexit. England and Wales went for it, NI and Scotland against it and the against in those parts of the UK gained in the last elections.
London rules it, the UK and is going for a very hard course in the negotiations.
Its going to be very rough for the UK internal, domestic, if this ends up in a no deal, or no extension for further negotiations.

It is just a bloody mess, in my eyes and I do not see a positive outcome for anybody, at the present, especially for your country

Thin Lizzy is a incredible band. :)

I'm no fan of the EU at all. When they went off on NF and his group waving those tiny Union Jacks in Brussels that pissed me off and was a sure sign the UK had made the right choice.

Don't care for the UN either.

I think the Southern States had the right to succeed from the Union even though slavery was abhorrent and a crime against humanity. But they joined the Union voluntary and should have been able to leave.

I think people have a right to determine their future thru the voting process. I've no person attachment to BREXIT other than it pissed me off after the 2016 Referendum was ignored and then sabotaged. So I became very Pro BREXIT because of that, don't ignore the vote in other words.

I do think N Ireland has a much better case to leave because they did not have the vote that Scotland had. If NI were to vote and voted to stay in the EU I would respect it. I would be disappointed as I think Ireland is a country that deserves to be united but I would respect it.

In a nutshell, I'm a Texan as much as I am an American. I am loyal to my state and the country it is part of. I think that same feeling is in many parts of the world so I respect it as I understand it.
