This just seems so wrong to me. If barking causes too many problems, the family should not have got the dog in the first place.

Absolutely. Preventing excessive barking is just a matter of good training, and people who can't be bothered to train a dog properly shouldn't have one at all.

If a dog's bark offends you, don't get a dog. Have you ever had surgery? A healing wound hurts; it hurts because it's nature's way of telling you there is a problem with your body. A dog or cat can't tell you they are in pain.
All my animal companions have either come from shelters or have been adopted from people who cannot keep them for whatever reason. A cat claws my furniture? Big deal; the couch will end up in a landfill one day anyhow, I really don't give a sh*t about it. My house is for living in and not to impress visitors with.
Anyone who mutilates and modifies animals for selfish reasons doesn't deserve either to keep them or, frankly, to share the same oxygen as them. These barbaric, retarded practises should be made illegal. In a nation which prides itself as being advanced and humanitarian I'm amazed that they are not.

    Sorry, I couldn't resist. Intended for a smile/no offense.

I'll understand if it's taken down.
