I learned something new today. I went to check a poster's profile and the "start a conversation" link was missing. I guess this means I'm on their ignore list.
Scrolled thru the pages.. see a lot of people who no longer post here.. I guess they put the entire site on ignore.
I believe I was just put on a poster's ignore list, for the first time AFAIK. He was frustrated by my provision of linked data contradicting his claims. Oh well.
Could be! A way to confirm this is to get a mate to check out their profile page as well and see if they can start a conversation I have checked out the people that I have on ignore and I can start a conversation.
As I've already stated, I use the ignore button to keep my blood pressure in check. Generally, I find the posters to share ideas that revolve around hate - no need to read that. But I'm curious about the posters who genuinely post crap, trying to draw people down to their level. Why do people respond to those kinds of posters' threads?
Yes, it's all about the blood pressure with me. Some posters are just annoying. Or unappreciative of any effort you make...
I use it when it is obvious I am dealing with someone who would argue with a stop sign. One really, really has to work hard to get on my ignore list. Currently there are 2 or 4, don't remember which.
Like...the whole world now who are urging their governments to close the fossil industry, DESPITE...or should that be , BECAUSE of the "empirical" evidence? (Personally, I just want the clean - ultimately free - energy from sun and wind...or nuclear fusion if it's possible). But yes, some people can't stand a thorough analysis of their views, especially mainstream economists as noted by James Galbraith: James K. Galbraith | Jordan Times " As anyone who has ever been responsible for legislative oversight of central bankers knows, they do not like to have their authority challenged. Most of all, they will defend their mystique, that magical aura that hovers over their words, shrouding a slushy mix of banality and baloney in a mist of power and jargon." Hence I'm on the ignore list of at least one PF economist... Like confronting theologians with the obvious reality that scripture is not the Word of God, but the word of men in search of God (since the different scriptural traditions disagree with one-another).
I have a handful of people on my ignore list too. When I forget why I put them there I might reinstate them but it doesn't take very long before most of them end up back on the rubbish tip. The ignore button is great, particularly for banishing trolls and those who are only arguing for the sake of participating in a forum where he/she can pretend he/she isn't a useless human being. If they can get someone to respond to their balderdash then they feel good about themselves and I'm happy for them .... but I, personally, don't have time to oblige them.
Well it took years and many different forms but I finally have one poster on ignore and I can't say I regret it
Ignoring people in a political debate forum is counterproductive in my opinion. I won’t use it because that’s just allowing the other side to speak while silencing yourself. It doesn’t stop them from posting in unfettered opposition.
For me I can get the same reply any of the opposition.. so I keep just a few off ignore for that (which is still totally predictable if you follow the MSM propaganda)
