I was in the Army, and believe it or not, own at least one gun. I don't qualify for being an Ivory Tower Man. What about your military service?
Interesting time standing in line with my 70 year old wife and 44 year old daughter who had qualified and were applying for their carry permit. The line slowly grew with first a young mom carrying her newborn child (first time permit),, a millennial couple (him renew, her first time), and a 65 year old man with a renewal. As an instructor, I asked them individually and separately why they chose to get a permit. All three said they felt it was their duty to be more responsible for themselves and their family's personal safety. I congratulated them for exercising their rights and encouraged them all to get more training. Will all of them start packin'? Our research says only a small percentage will actually carry on a daily basis, most will have one in the home and have some knowledge as to how to put it to use (although I stress they think they can), and the rest will never touch a gun again. Sunday it's off to the range with my single mom daughter and her AR15 for some aroma therapy.
Me too! The "team" is getting together for Rattle Battle (NTIT) practice. There's only four of us; we need 8.
I have met lots of Anti Gun folks whose 2nd amendment Rights had been nullified due to criminal convictions. Since they could no longer own Guns, they sour grapes those that do own Guns and insult them and continually put them down.
I think I see the insults on this forum generally come from one direction....the pro gun side. No one can deny this
I agree but I also thing there should be an opportunity for some to earn their rights back. As you well know one way or another they can always get a gun so somehow there has to be a way to meet somewhat in the middle with respect to gun ownership and voting. Otherwise we just create more enemies when they could possibly be actual supporters and conservative voters. I know it is a fine line and way above my pay grade.
This weekend I am doing a special, day long class for five close women friends, one a rape victim, one, a 70 yr old Obama fan, one the wife of a close liberal friend (now a gun owner), and one a single mother and her 18 yr old daughter. They all have had several gun safety sessions and ongoing discussions of the law and other aspects of gun defense with me and and can safe any gun I own, and have all learned to shoot using pellet pistols and pellet rifles. This will be their first range experience; the range fees and ammo a gift from me. They have worked together in mutual support, encouragement, and have gotten a woman's perspective from my financeé. Interestingly, the one all of them want to try in addition to others on the agenda, is my AR. I figure they are plotting to take a bank...Lol.
I agree, however lots of those people I speak to are so bummed out about their conviction that they are completely apathetic about restoring their Rights.
Most insults are coming from the pro-gun side, simply because there are more of us. that said, insults are coming from both sides. It's just easier to see the insults coming at you, than those your side promulgates.
Perhaps if you did not mock folks that disagree with you. Also, some kidding and jocularity is not always an insult.
I can take a joke and appreciate a good one. But outright insults and personal attacks have become so common by some people that the only way to deal with it is the ignore function.
Good article. But it is not just office nerds that hate guns. Anybody that grew up in the city and never handled a gun is afraid of them and therefore hates them and anybody who has one. The main problem is endemic lack of experience with guns. And these inexperienced nerds, both male and female, are activists.
The problem with the AR's for anyone unfamiliar with them is their undue complexity. The Ruger Mini's are much simpler to operate.
My brother in law went to Harvard Law School and yet he believed the same way as Ginsberg, Breyer, and Sotomayor about guns. So you can't really impugn legal education alone.
As crime increases in terms of numbers of actual crime victims, I think the anti gun crowd will eventually see the light and arm themselves. I can't see them going through their lives continually being re-victimized by their own flawed gun philosophies.
It might be complex to diagnose problems for even those experience with one, but the same would apply to a 1911 which happens to be the bulk of my smithing work. All four women already know it's operation, it's component parts and all four can already field strip it. Knowledge is power.
I thought there were three books to that series. Never read it. A friend of mine used to speak of them from time to time and that there was a movie role perfect for Darryl Hannah because she didn't actually have to learn any dialogue.. But to answer your question, no. I just find it mildly amusing that the side that prides themselves on allegedly knowing every detail of everything every Founder believed and meant have such utter contempt for educated people.
No, not contempt for "Educated People" only contempt for alledged "Educated People" that have a Political Agenda, of which Gun Control and Power & Control Baloney play a major role. The type of People that believe others need a Ruling class of Super Elites that can pass Laws to take away self sufficiency from people and incease Victimology while espousing lesser punishment for criminals and violent crime. The textbook Political hack is what many hold in contempt, not true Academics.
