The uninformed left gives us 40 reasons why we need more gun laws. They can ALL be refuted with one statement. Criminals DO NOT obey laws.

I guess liberals cant come up with a logical reason to say this is wrong. I admit refuting a fact is difficult.

The Usual Suspects: the War On Drugs is a colossal and colossally expensive failure!
The Usual Suspects: the War On Guns will be a spectacular success!

Good point. So we should repeal ALL laws because criminals are still gonna break them., You here that everyone? Rape, child molestation and murder should all be legal because having a law doesn't magically stop every single case of them!

OR, we could live in reality, where most people understand that laws are not supposed to stop all crimes from happening, but allow us to punish those who are caught, and use those punishments to deter others.

For example, the main reason source of black market guns are straw purchases. People are paid to legally buy guns and then transfer them to the ownership of people who distribute them to criminals. This is technically legal. Private owners are not required to follow the same laws as FFL dealers. They do not have to do background checks and other things, and it's completely legal for them to buy guns and then resale them. It's technically illegal for someone without an FFL to buy guns with the sole intent of reselling them, but that's really impossible to prove.

If we have strict laws which police straw purchases more, and start enforcing FFL regulations on private sales, then we have grounds to punish these types of people. But without those laws, we can not nothing.

In the eyes of the criminals, legal or illegal, neither is influential. Criminals draw their own lines, following the rule of law is hardly something at the top of their "To Do" lists..

And of course, the point of my post goes right over your head...

Law isn't about magically stopping all crime, it's about punishing those who are caught committing crimes, and using fear of punishment to deter future crimes. There are always going to be criminals, but under your logic having any laws at all is meaningless. So we should just let child molesters and rapists do whatever they want since we can't stop them all.

    Thank you.

We have all the laws we will ever need to threaten and deter the illegal possession of firearms regarding criminals and the use of them in a crime! Clearly criminals have no regard for laws even when the use of a firearm adds more prison time already in a crime.

As for your "we should just let", well you need to come to grips with the reality that you don't allow or disallow a criminal from doing whatever they want, a criminal will do whatever they like whenever they like no matter how many laws you pass or how loudly you tell them how to behave ;)

But there are not 40 laws written against speeding as the left is trying to do to subvert the 2nd Amendment.

Re-read my thread, and tell me how more gun laws will work better than the ones we have now. Especially since criminal loons wont obey them any way.

Similarly, pass laws for gun control, then arrest the new criminals and put them in jail, yes?

Firearm-related restrictions are not enforced in the united states against those who commit serious offenses. Therefore they serve no reason for existing. Felons do not face new sentences for being caught in possession of a firearm, nor do firearm traffickers face anything more than probation for knowingly supplying firearms to prohibited individuals, who go on to murder law enforcement officers. Nearly every firearm-related offense someone is charged for, is automatically dropped at either trial, or before the trial ever starts so a plea bargain can be issued. That is simply how things work in the united states, so more of the same serves no reason for even being discussed.

That does seem to be the fundamental logic of the GC obsessed.
Amazing that grown up, technically adult people cannot make the correlation between the two.

The anti-gun left is just frustrated because the #1 biggest fact associated with any and ALL crime is the attitude of the criminal towards laws. The leftist simply have no rational foundation for argument, until that time they create this mysterious new super compelling LAW that stops mankind from breaking them! Until then all that need to be said is "LAWS do not stop a criminal" they live by a set of rules and laws of their own "Choosing".

When a law makes a criminal out of law-abiding citizens, the law is a travesty.
The purpose of criminal law is to make criminals subject to punishment. A crime is fundamentally a transgression that causes harm to persons or property or rights of others.
It would be possible under the logic of the GC obsessed logic to pass a law against owning a baseball bat under the excuse that it could be used as a weapon. Then you could arrest ball teams everywhere, and half the kids in America- and claim some kind of "victory". .

Laws are thought up, but not often thought out, by people. Stupid people make and endorse stupid laws

I've always found it interesting that when laws are on the books, so many times, liberals are the ones who demand that we ignore them. I mean, there is quite a list. Drug laws, immigration laws, federal laws, federal land sales policy, I mean, there is quite a list. If liberal folk think that more law is the answer, I always ask, why? It isn't like most liberal folks follow them.

It's already illegal for criminals to have guns.
Looks like already we have the laws we need.

Most criminals end up making plea deals. Illegal guns possession by a felony has about the same rate of trial and conviction as most other criminal charges.
