Biden blasts Texas' 6-week abortion ban as 'extreme' and violation of a constitutional right

I was kind of shocked not to see a thread on this. This abortion ban is going to cause a lot of chaos, not just because of the restrictive nature of it, but its bizarre reliance on deputizing citizens to enforce it via lawsuits. I don't know how this is constitutionally legal, then again, ever since the conservative takeover of the SCOTUS, we knew this was going to happen. What I don't get is how can this kind of enforcement by citizens is not ripe for vendettas and other nefarious motives. Technically, even an Uber driver can be sued for $10,000 for driving a woman to a doctor's appointment that leads to an abortion. Like I said, Texas is about to endure a new wave of crazy.

It's not funny, this Texas abortion ban, but what I bolded did give my a chuckle since it dead on accurate.

You're right, it isn't funny, but really, if I were in Texas, I'd be hopping mad. The government just created a law that allows every nut case to file a lawsuit on anyone (in TX) that they suspect either got or aided someone in getting an abortion. this is nuts!

How can they virtually ban abortions with that 6 week time frame during which many women do not even know they are pregnant. They are going against the Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion which is currently law of the land here in US.

Goes to show how dumb TX lawmakers are as well as how little they care about women.

The thing that I do not get about these laws, none of them hold any punishment for the woman getting the abortion.

If they feel abortion is that bad, why do they not add that to these laws?

I don't quite get what you're saying here.

From what I have heard, this particular bit of nasty legislation is based upon all the defeats of similar anti-abortion bills. So in essence, this monstrosity was designed to circumvent federal law.

What I see is the left's hypocrisy. Biden and the left claim that Texas went too far against the established norms while Biden and the left want to get rid of the Hyde Amendment, which has been the established norm.

Of course, how dare poor women get an abortion paid by Medicaid.

Keep 'em barefoot and pregnant, the Texas way.

There are a couple of threads but they have already degenerated in to “but it’s a baby!” Followed by “The only women needing abortions are whores and sluts”

Sooooo, is the GOP going to put in place child welfare supports for the increased numbers of births to women living under the poverty line?

Some of the babies being killed are female. Who cares about them?

The Texas GOP wants to turn the state into a Taliban-like paradise. No restrictions on open carry, so men can walk around heavily-armed, intimidating others, while women's rights are being stripped away. Next will come the assault on education.

And after they are born, many of those unwanted babies become welfare moochers in the eyes of the GOP. In other words, a subhuman species.

It's generally not the guys walking around openly carrying a legally purchased gun you need to worry about.
