    People are still driving outdated old vintage cars now despite all the modern replacements.
    The only thing that will stop people driving obsolete cars in the future is the ever increasing cost of oil.

    Correct, some people are doing so. But those cars aren't made anymore; there are no replacements for them. That's my whole point.

    ... caused by government regulations/mandates and other interventions in the marketplace... IOW, not because people WANT to or because it is cheaper via free market activity, but rather because government is forcing it upon them via forcing oil to become ever increasingly expensive.
